Black screen when I try to play the tutorial

Postby unit684 » Fri Jan 02, 2009 4:23 pm

When I try to play either of the tutorials for Multiwinia I am left with a black screen however I can still hear the music. I can play online games however I am not very good as I have not managed to get the tutorials to work. I have searched for this problem all over the internet and have not yet found a solution. Also I bought and downloaded the game in Steam if that is any help.

Hmm, sounds odd, firstly in the Steam game window right click Multiwinia and click Properties, then the Local Files tab, and click "Verify Integrity of game cache..." if it pop's up and goes away and doesnt report anything the game is fine.

Next thing is to check for updated graphics card drivers, on your manufacturers website.

If that doesnt work delete Multiwinia from Steam and redownload, if that fails report back here for other suggestions.

Good Luck.

I tried re-downloading the game and that didn't work. The integrity of the game cache is fine as well. If it helps, I also had the problem when I downloaded the demo version without using steam and I have Windows Vista Home Basic.

Windows XP 32bit 178.24 Geforce 8600GT

Or if you have a Notebook and not a Desktopyou want version 179.28...

Windows Vista 32bit 179.28 Geforce 8600GT
Windows XP 32bit 179.28 Geforce 8600GT

Good Luck!

Try running the game in a window, see if it works then, and if it doesn't then is it only the window black or the whole screen?

It doesn't work when I run it in a window and it is only the window that turns black. Another thing I noticed is that if I move the mouse around I occasionally hear the noise that it makes when you hover over links on the main menu

It is really strange, Contact IntroVersion and give a link to this thread, maybe they can understand the debug report.

Looks like to could be something to do with...

Setting up Tutorial

Only other thing I can think of is checking for Spyware (as it could have messed with the Hosts file) or if using a router is the NAT firewall too restrictive? 3rd Party Firewall?

Maybe try disconnect from the Internet / Network and open steam and start in offline mode, see if it still does it then? Sorry but I am all out of ideas, and Contacting IntroVersion seems the next step.

Looks like you have a Intel Celeron D 360 (SL9KK (D0)),
Celeron D Chart

Info about CPU...

Single Core
"Cedar Mill-512" (65 nm)
Steppings: C1, D0
3466 MHz
533MHz FSB
26x Multiplier
65 W TDP
LGA775

Unlike the latter Conroe-L processers the 360 is based on NetBurst microarchitecture. So doesnt support SSSE3 (the extension to SSE3)

Sorry for all the info but could help you out if you think its something to do with the CPU?

I got a response from introversion. They said that if I reinstall and enter the key again it should work but I have tried reinstalling and as I downloaded it with steam it has no key.
