[1.2.1] Forgotten Player Name

Postby 00Davo » Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:42 am

Yeah. I set my player name to "00Davo" every time I play, and next time, it says "NewPlayer" again. I've tried setting the preferences.txt to "00Davo", as well - as soon as I restart Multiwinia, it changes the file back to say "NewPlayer". Weirdly, my preferred colour is correctly recorded, as are all my other settings. It's just the name being wiped.

I'm running "retail.iv.1.2.1" using Wine on my Ubuntu PC. (Incidentally, I'm currently running Multiwinia using the --NoProfile switch to keep it self-contained, although I still had the problem before doing that.)

I think first and foremost that you should update to 1.2.4 - if it doesn't detect any updates, set your version file to 1.2.4 and run your autopatcher with the --repair option. Other than that, the problem is that it can't write your name to preferences.txt which is located - you guessed it - in the Profile folder. If the problem occured before that, it probably has something to do with file permissions (I guess).

If you set your name midgame, it doesn't save, which I'm sure I reported (oops if not).

I can't imagine why the game would be resetting your name on startup, if you have put it in the preferences file. Unless it's loading it from the preferences.txtr in the dat. I'm going to download the latest version in Wine to see if it's a Wine bug. (Conviniently, today I chose not to boot to WIndows)
