Some connections problems and some errors

Postby the4ce » Sun Oct 12, 2008 6:03 pm

Hello! This is my first post. :)

I can't connect to some of the servers...I click on a server and it says it connects, but I keep waiting and waiting and it doesen't connect. I managed to connect to one but I got some strange error in red on the screen: Synchronize error. What is this?
Oh...and when I host a server nobody comes. A friend told me that he keeps waiting to wile it connects. :(

It is from my anti-virus? I use Kaspersky and Windows Firewall is on.

Any help please?

Allow Multiwinia in all your firewalls/anti-virus.

Do you use a router? Which one? Forward/allow UDP ports 4000, 4001

And if you forward them, tell Multiwinia about it in the Network Setup, there's a port forwarding checkbox.

And don't worry about not being able to connect to *some* games, those are the people how have the same problem hosting as you have.

I use a wireless router, I think it is EDIMAX BR-6204Wg(I think!!!) and with the "Forward/allow UDP ports 4000, 4001" I don't know. I enabled the port forwarding in multiwinia and today I was able to connect to some servers, but of course, the game was ruined by the SYNCHRONIZATION ERROR! :( I heard it could be from my video card wich is Nvidia GeForce 5500 FX. Any help with the error?

I am the one who informed you of that.

I reckon it's due to an abnormally low FPS in the menus (and thus, when joining), but I haven't been able to test.

Would it be possible to try something for me?

Yes, I know.

I could try if you tell me what to do and how to do.

First, play some single-player games, and note if your game speed runs completely wrong when first starting a game.
Second, if it does, try hosting some multiplayer games, and see if the same problem occurs.
Third, if you have any other video cards (including onboard video!), try using them. Test for the above issues, plus the sync errors upon joining games.

Please post your findings here.

(I assume this is what you wanted, RabidZombie.)

First: I played a LOT of single-player game and I haven't had problems with the speed only when there are thousand of Multiwinians/ants.
Second: I can't host games :( nobody can connect to it, but I can join games and every time I join...SYNCHRONIZATION ERROR!
Third: I also have a laptop with ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 I will try to play some games.

Actually, that wasn't what I was going to go.

First of all, in the menus, how badly does it run? Is it fairly unresponsive? Do you get a low frame rate?

When you're loading the map (with the spinning Darwinian), does it jump?

How long does a map usually take to load?

Lastly, I'm going to ask you to try a custom language text file, but I need to make it first. :P

Not what I meant.
If you read my post, you'll see that I said when 'first starting a game'; referring to the first few (15-45) seconds ingame. And I didn't mean the FPS, but rather the actual speed the game is simulating at.
If it runs perfectly normal during that time frame, then that's good to know. But if it, for some reason, runs abnormally fast, I need to know that.

Yes, I have low frame rate and its slow...I also need to click pretty much to get into a menu.

When you're loading the map (with the spinning Darwinian), does it jump?

You mean when the game is loading? The Darwinian only spin.

How long does a map usually take to load?

1, 2 seconds, maybe 3 in some of the games.

And what the language file will do to solve this problem? :P

Oh, that! Well some in some(50% of the games I think) of the games the speed is 2x fast in the first 15-45 seconds.

Damn this ambiguous language! Don't worry.

Hopefully it will increase the menu frame rate and serve as a less than ideal workaround for this problem.

Will upload it in a sec.

The only current (perfect) workaround is using a different video card, but I'm hoping IV can solve the problem eventually.
RabidZombie's text replacement eases the problem, but it still remains somewhat.

As for why it gives a sync error, I believe it's because your client gets ahead of the server, which is a problem. It causes the client to desync, unrecoverably, as there is nothing actually wrong except the simulation time.

And how can I repair the synchronization error then? :(

Same way. The two bugs are very closely connected, and fixing one should remove the other.
