No LAN play?

I can understand some connection problems for people trying to play online, but my roommate and I can't even play on our LAN! If we try to start a LAN game, it just keeps trying to connect infinity times, and never works. I went to the router and forwarded ports. I set my roommate on 4000/4001UDP, and I set myself up on 4002/4003UDP. I double checked to make sure the IP addresses and the settings in the game all matched up. It still didn't work. In fact, it worked worse than before. We weren't even able to get a list of games, let alone connect to any of them.
The only reason I bought this game was to get some awesome LAN play going on. If it isn't fixed soon, I want a refund.
Also, this game desperately needs to let you change control settings. Who thought that it would be a good idea to have the mouse wheel scroll up for zooming out? That's totally backwards! Zoom out is scroll down, zoom in is scroll up. Also, I don't care, but my friends like to invert the Y axis on their mouses. Why can't they?
Of the Multiwinia that I've played, I've actually had some good fun. There are a lot of good ideas going on here. However, if the multiplayer doesn't work, and the controls can't be changed, I'm not going to play much more of this game. That's pretty disappointing for a game I paid $20 for and started playing this morning.
I mean, the game is called Multiwinia. Multi is in the title. Yet, the multiplayer is the part that is broken the most!
