mouse 'reset' during game (solved: set processor affinity)

Hey ppl,

currently, when I start a game and try to play, my mouse gets reset to the start 'direction' of the map, or so it seems. Really annoying, since it makes the game unplayable! :( The first levels I played were fine. But now this happens on every map it seems. It happens quite random. Sometimes once every few seconds and sometimes a couple of times per second.

Any ideas? Did anyone have the some issue yet?

[edit]
My dxdiag output can be found here (zip) or here (exe).
And I'm playing the game through Steam.

[edit2]
My screen was becoming black now as well, when starting a map. Even when trying to change the camera position did not show anything of a map or something. I did see the time and text at the top of the screen and was able to "start" by pressing space. I did a full restart of Steam, which at first seemed to help. I saw the map again was able to play, without mouse problem, but then the problems started again after a minute into the game.

greets,
-st3vie

I'm experiencing the exact same problem... It gets buggy sometimes, and the camera just sits there twitching. Makes the game unplayable. :/

I've tried turning ALL the settings ALL the way down, running in fullscreen and windowed mode, restarting the game and computer... for a while it was great, and then this started all of a sudden. I don't know why.. It seems to have started after I tried to join an internet game.

Same issue here, no idea why it suddenly started happening. Got the exact same problem with Darwinia too :(

Haven't joined any internet games yet so that shouldn't be why it started. Running game in windowed mode on main monitor and another app at my second monitor.

The camera starts freaking out when the client-side lag climbs too high. This happens when there's simply too much going on.

In my case, I'm talking about single player maps and the FPS is certainly not low! The mouse points back to the initial position as far as I can tell. Besides, it's at the start of a game... not much going on... yet. :)

Yes, I'm in exactly the same position as st3vie... it happens at the exact start of the game, my internet connection is fine, and I'm playing single player. This is definitely NOT an FPS problem in the sense that other people are talking about. And it worked earlier, I can't figure out why it's not working now.

Could you perhaps get video of it with fraps, or something else. These type of bugs aren't easily describable, and screenshots probably won't show much useful info.

I guess I can try that, yes. Funny though, I did try with lower gfx settings, liek 16 bit and quality to low for everything. Then it was actualyl playable. The problem only occured two or three times. Weird was then, when I switched back to full quality mode (32bit colours, 24bit Z and everything High), the animations of the darwinians, the water and other animated parts on the map, like zone borders, went all way too fast.

I'll check out Fraps.

Well, let me try describing it in more detail then:

Basically, at a rate ranging from once every couple seconds to several times a second, the view "snaps" to be pointed an arbitrary direction. The camera POSITION is not affected (i.e. I can drive around with wasd and up and down with the scrollwheel), only the direction in which it is pointed. To be perfectly clear, let me reiterate, this does not seem to be related to the framerate at which the game is running, and it occurs continuously starting the moment a new game loads.

I did not have this problem at all when I started playing the game, I played through the tutorials just fine, and played a few single player games. Then this started happening. The first time I observed it was when I attempted to join a multiplayer game, but now it happens on all games, including single player ones. It makes the game unplayable.

Edit: A little more playing with it... it looks like some kind of bug with the code that centers the screen view on the mouse... I'd almost describe it as the game thinking that the mouse has jumped to the edge of the center area where it draws the screen, and then realizing it hasn't and then re-centering on the mouse. Interestingly, it doesn't do this AT ALL when the mouse is not within the game window... runs buttery smooth, I can seem my multiwinians killing the others quite nicely when I've got some other window selected.

[Edit] Edit Edit: The mouse begins to work much better (but not perfectly) after the game ends (but does not work at all before it begins)...

Hmm, are you playing windowed mode, instead of fullscreen?
I think someone posted that if the window was not centered on the screen, the view would be weird. Will try to find that post.

The bug occurs in both windowed mode and fullscreen, and goes away in both modes when the game does not have focus.

Nevermind that then. Maybe frenchfrong will have a better idea.

In the meantime, if you could all post your dxdiag.txt it would probably help him.

Mysteriously as it appeared, the bug went away again. I rebooted a couple of times earlier, and rebooted this time, and now the problem is gone. Now it just crashes periodically. I'm going to try reinstalling it.

okay, it's indeed weird. The same happened here. While fiddling with Fraps (which I didn't get completely to work) I could not recreate the problem! It's gone. I can play again, which is good, of course. However, it is very weird.

Maybe, for me, the change of settings to lower quality and back did something!?!?

I don't have crashes though, like TheFire has.

reinstalling fixed the crashes, so I don't know where the bug went... I'll report back if it shows up again.
