I started a game, had the usual problem with the mouse, so I did the following steps as Ice_Dragon_ID explained shortly:

- I hit the windows key
- went to the taskmanager by right-clicking the taskbar
- right-click multiwinia.exe
- select "set affinity"
- deselect 'cpu 1'
- went back to the game.... smooth as hell frozen over! :)

I also tried putting CPU1 affinity back on, and yes... problem was back!

Thanks for the tip Ice_Dragon_ID! 8)

I had the same problem and this was the fix. I am running an AMD 4400+.

Looks like a case where updating the chipset driver, and BIOS could be a good idea.

This fix worked for me as well, but is there a solution to this that stays between launches? Currently I have to redo this every time I run the game.
