i did a clean reinstall in steam. I even removed the directory with preferences and all after deinstalling. I played a few games, and the tutorials again... and... tadaaa... it's back.

I tried fraps, but it's not working for me now, so I can't show it on video right now. Any other tool like this I might try?

I did save the old preferences and compared with the new installation prefs.
The differences are these lines:

Code: Select all

AutomaticCamera = 0
ControlHelpEnabled = 1
LargeMenus = 0
NetworkClientPort = 4001
NetworkServerPort = 4000
NetworkUsePortForwarding = 1

@TheFire: maybe you could paste these into your new preferences.txt? I did try out other settings with AutoCam and ControlHelp (like 1 instead of 0 and vise versa).

So, basically I'm asking you to mess up your game play again as well! hehe ;)

i updated my first post in the thread. The links are now to a zip and (as extra) a self extracting executable. You are probably trying to open the zip with built-in Windows extractor, which has a problem with 7-zip archives in zip format I believe.

I'll check out the driver updates for my graphics card.

seems that I have the latest nVidia drivers already. I can only go up to beta.

Besides, it isn't a graphical glitch, but more like an input problem or calculation problem (or in-game setting/configuration).

NOTE: I can recommend 7-zip :), though I'm not sure if WinRAR went completely free already

I've only tried fraps and CamStudio. I think the second is easier to use, but haven't tried any of them in long time.

Everyone: I know this SOUNDS like a graphical glitch, but it's VERY CLEARLY NOT A GRAPHICS PROBLEM! It's a problem with the mouse/controls/settings/input, but it's not the graphics... (that said, I'm using the latest drivers as well)

I had this happen to me again, I rebooted, and it was fixed again. I joined and finished a multiplayer game and it's still working, so it's not likely to be that...

I tried adding those settings into my prefs file and it didn't change anything. Still working properly...

Dxdiag & Frapsed video here: (New link to come when I fix my black screen problem)

Running dual screens(one widescreen and one 4:3), updated all drivers (including DirectX), tried windowed and full screen...CPU never goes over 20% when game is running, and fps is good.

System specs:

Code: Select all

Windows XP Professional 32 bit Service Pack 3
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, ~2.2GHz
3 GB memory

PS: Using steam version of game if this may have anything to do with it

uhh... I only got some music for a few seconds? Darude - out of Control? Nice touch! ;) I used Videolan for playing the video. Maybe I'm missing some obscure codec though.

Did you upload the video as encoded by fraps?

Or did you consider re-encoding it from the quick, low compression codec FRAPS uses so it can record in real time...

The fact that this video is 100 meg SEEMS to suggest the answer to this question o_o

fixed the prob

okay, my first impression was that it was a bit off topic, since it's more about mouse/cam behaviour, but I tried this and it DOES work for the mouse problem too!!

I started a game, had the usual problem with the mouse, so I did the following steps as Ice_Dragon_ID explained shortly:

- I hit the windows key
- went to the taskmanager by right-clicking the taskbar
- right-click multiwinia.exe
- select "set affinity"
- deselect 'cpu 1'
- went back to the game.... smooth as hell frozen over! :)

I also tried putting CPU1 affinity back on, and yes... problem was back!

Thanks for the tip Ice_Dragon_ID! 8)

thx

Uh, no, it's because if you don't re-encode the video once it's recorded by fraps, you end up with a large file, because if fraps used heavy compression while recording, it wouldn't be able to record fastenough for you to continue playing the game you were recording. You should probably grab eg VirtualDub and encode the video with xvid. If you just take a guess at a bitrate, you'll probably be able to cut the filesize down by a factor of 20-50.

Not had any issues with the game today for some reason...
If it does come up again I'll make sure to capture a video that works :lol: Didn't check the last one before I uploaded it.
