I still have the problem. I'm considering building another computer just for this game. But I figured I should chuck my specs on here to give some more insight into the problem.

Corrupted data files? From a quick look at the stack it seems it's having problems with 'terrain/water_launchpad.bmp', try to reinstall the game?
Please tell us if it fix it or not.

I'm having the same problem.
Annoyingly, the game let me play the demo, and ever since has given me a black screen on launch of the first map, and subsequently turns black (but with sound) on every restart of the client.
I switched ScreenWindowed to be equal to 1 in my preferences.txt file, to no effect.
From Dxdiag.exe:

Do you have an errorlog.txt in your multiwinia profile directory? (may have a shortcut to open your profile in your start menu, or a profilefinder executable to run to find it) - if so, does it mention landscape_launchpad.bmp?

There's no errorlog.txt file in my multiwinia folder. The game continues running, it just presents a black screen.

As strange as it may sound, someone with a ATI X1800 on the Intel platform solved the black screen issue by updating his chipset driver,
Someone give it a try and report back?

I tried setting my CPU affinity to only CPU 0 (i.e. unchecking the CPU 1 box) and it seems to have addressed my problems. Yay!

Great. You were, like, the only person I didn't ask to do this.

Why is it always on AMD systems ....
Is there a patch for this, or there is a big errata and all AMD motherboard need BIOS updates???

AMD provides a 'dual core optimizer' and CPU driver on
their site. I've never had either the Darwinia AMD dual core issue or any Multiwinia issue with my setup, having both of these installed. Though I also have an up-to-date BIOS.

Reinstalling the game didn't work, reinstalling my drivers didn't work. Specifically whats happening, is I will open the game and it will lag. Usually playing the same second of ambient sound repetitively for a few seconds. Then the sound changes and the same thing happens again. The video is extremely choppy and the mouse movements aren't instant. The movement of the menu refreshes slowly. Instead of getting smooth movement, it just changes every time the sound changes.

Sounds like you might actually be getting
this bug.
Unlikely, but you should read through the whole thread anyway... if it is the same problem, then we need to know, as that would help incredibly.

That sounds like you actually don't have any OpenGL acceleration enabled. Can you post a debug.txt? Should be in your profile folder (accessible over the MW start menu), and don't forget to edit out your authentication key (three times).

I changed my graphics card back to my 7600GT and the game runs fine. So that eliminates any other issues, other than card compatibility. The GTX260 is a fairly recent card and probably has bugs of its own. When running the GTX260, I can't actually get in game, only the choppy menu. I'll post more details when I put my GTX260 back in, as I don't have time right now. Thanks.

Please post your debug.txt (with authkey blanked) and dxdiag output
