My random ideas

Postby Hezkore » Sat Sep 20, 2008 2:33 am

Ok most of these have probably already been suggested (and might be in the game already...?) and I'm sorry for that, but I just want to spam out my random ideas and thoughts, then I'll shut up forever.

Password protected servers
Chat before starting the match
Ability to kick players in game room
Back to game room button after game ends, instead of having to exit (maybe only as admin, forcing players back to the room)
Team chat
Voice chat
Being able to force player colour / team as admin
Refresh button in server browser
Option to keep darwinians selected aftering ordering them to move
Option to select what type of items / power ups the boxes may contain
Keep settings for the server and singleplayer advanced options
Better sound options (Volume would be nice for example)
Server setting to disable player controlled turrets
Second mouse button in menu should be like pressing Back, or if something is marked (like Colour Depth) it should lower instead of increase

Single player games should be single player!! :P
When I want to do some practicing in Single Player, I always have some random person joining me and since you can't kick people it's really annoying. :/
Other than that, I haven't had any internet related problems.

It would also be cool if you could have like a favorite host list or something, so if a player you've got on the list hosted a game, you'd get popup and the ability to click a link and automatically join his match.

The snap value on officer and the formation is too big, you can't make small changes in your formation position cause of it.
And being able to move officers by holding Shift and Right clicking took some time to figure out, there should be better tutorials.

Some Assault levels seem impossible to win, like Beyond the Pale as Attacker.
I've played as Defender and Attacker on that level, both online and against the computer and have yet to see the Attacker win.

I also think the Quit button should be disabled for like a half sec or so when going back to the main menu, cause when I'm in options and wanna go back I just hit Back like a mad man and forget the Quit button is on the same place and the game just closes instantly.

And I just want to say that I LOVE this game! _o/
I'm only mentioning these things cause I love this game so much and want it to be perfect. :]

Agreed.

Hezkore wrote:Voice chat

Not gonna happen.

Hezkore wrote:Being able to force player colour / team as admin

I think this is a bad idea. Some people are attached to a particular color (take blue, and I will eat your soul -- I called it months ago!).

Hezkore wrote:Refresh button in server browser

It updates on its own, no? And it is not that hard to hit back, then return to the server list. That being said, a refresh button would be nice.

Hezkore wrote:Option to keep darwinians selected aftering ordering them to move

Doesn't really seem like a big deal to me, though I am inclined to agree with you.

Hezkore wrote:Option to select what type of items / power ups the boxes may contain

At the moment, there are two options -- basic and advanced crates. The impression I get from Icepick (one of the developers) is that this is not going to change. He seems pretty opposed to it. I happen to disagree with him, but he is the guy with the power.

Hezkore wrote:Keep settings for the server and singleplayer advanced options

Meh. Doesn't seem like a major issue to me.

Hezkore wrote:Better sound options (Volume would be nice for example)

Seconded. However, you can change the volume by manually editing the preferences file. I believe the appropriate line is something like "SoundMasterVolume=255". The number can vary between 0 and 255, with 0 being mute and 255 being full volume.

Hezkore wrote:Server setting to disable player controlled turrets

Why?

Hezkore wrote:Second mouse button in menu should be like pressing Back, or if something is marked (like Colour Depth) it should lower instead of increase

Again, doesn't seem like a big deal. Not really worth changing, in my opinion.

Hezkore wrote:Single player games should be single player!! :P

Indeed. I am sure that one will be fixed soon. ;)

You are looking for, basically, a friends system, da? People have requested that in Defcon for years, and it hasn't happened. In other words, don't hold your breath.

Hezkore wrote:The snap value on officer and the formation is too big, you can't make small changes in your formation position cause of it.

Perhaps. I haven't had any trouble with it, and ultra-fine positioning doesn't really make all that much difference, anyway.

RTFM. Page 8.

You'll figure it out. Anyway, there have to be some challenges, no?

Pay more attention? It probably isn't going to change.

Groovy.

Yeah some ideas like Voice chat and friends list is probably a bit.. extreme, but I just wanted to spam out my ideas heh.

Being able to force players to join certain teams feels like something important thought, me and my friend wanted to defend and have two random players attacking, but someone joined and quickly and selected Defence and I couldn't do anything about it, had to recreate the whole server again (and setup everything again cause settings aren't saved)

An options to select different styles of crates would still be nice, serious players would understand the need for "bad" crates and not just remove them.

And it seems like player controlled turrets are a bit over powered, I can take out HUUUGE waves of darwinians when I'm in a turret while an AI controlled one can't do very much at all... It's just nice to have options like this avalible.

The small things are important to me, like darwinians being deselected, server settings being saved and quit button being badly placed. :P

And as for the manual, I bought this via STEAM, I have no Manual. xP
(Not that I'd read the manual if I had it heh)

Actually, Icepick has said some positive things about more crate options, although he makes a strong case against individual crate selection. Link.

While you're doing that, you can't control anything else, though. It's a tradeoff.

Are you sure? I have a manual.pdf in my digital download version. I see no reason for the steam version not to have it...

I also think there should be some sort of sound or maybe just some text on the screen when you've lost control over something.
Atm. you have no idea if you've lost a spawn point or turret, until it's too late to anything about it. :/

Actually, the manual is available on Steam's site in PDF format.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/1530/

It's on the right-hand side as "view the manual".

I was actually going to post a similar thread but you seemed to have covered what I had to say plus more! I think really improving the browser interface is top of my list of things I'd like to see implemented. You just got to have team-chat of course. Some sort of chat lobby would be great too.
