Tooltips may mean something...

Postby Major Cooke » Sun Nov 16, 2008 9:52 am

I was browsing the English.txt, and there's tooltips for everything, even the Infection, Plague, etc etc... Are we going to be able to control those soon? like... be able to plant them wherever we want?

Edit: Also, is there absolutely NO WAY to prevent infection breakouts? I've been trying to set it as an invalid crate in a test map, it just won't fucking turn off!

God, you guys are smart...

There are several crates which simply are not placeable, and from what I can guess this is because they would else be extremely overpowered (and in the case of Infection and Plague it basically tilts the crates from "OMGIFUCKINGHATETHISPOWERUP" to "Yay, I've won the game!"). The idea of these powerups is really that because they will affect the troops you send at the crates containing them will be affected, hence you will lose some troops due to them which is supposed to make you think twice before trying to obtain a crate. Placeability can turn every powerup into a (for you) good powerup, which would reduce that good/bad weighing you normally have to do when seeing a crate land.

Tooltips, however, are there for every single crate and I can only imagine this is because the choice of which powerups would be placeable has been made after thinking up all the possible powerups. Technically it's simply a bitflip away (probably) from turning any powerup into a placeable one if IV wants it, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Well, if anything, I would hope IV makes it 50/50 with the rest of the powerups that you CAN place, or that deploy at the spot, i.e. dark forest and Ants nests. The Plague and Infection are really overcome, if your fast enough about using them. Also, the Infection can only infect a maximum # at a time, so having a giganormous amount of multiwinians around really does help, especially for clearing the virus out, granted you'll lose a few.
