Retribution (Whats fare?)

Postby sfericz » Sun Sep 21, 2008 9:19 pm

Wheres the limit in taking it too far once you've been eliminated and using your power-ups? Last game I played(4way Dom) I was knocked out early. But gave as much havoc as I could. Letting the Evil Dawinia's take over for a little. Some players complained a little maybe. But will there become an unwritten rule, not to over do it?

I love/hate the payback option.

On the one hand, if you get an upper hand by taking out an opponent's Spawn Points, payback destroys you.
On the other hand , payback is so sweet.

When I lose and get the payback option I always attack the person who put me out of comission. Or I try to favour another team so he could get wiped out.

It's a good method to keep hosts from quitting if they get beat.

If I'm reduced to a floating head on the sidelines, I want to be a Godlike floating head with the power of life and death over the battlefield.

Meteors, nukes, even selecting which boxes have the plague. :D

However silly it may sound, I have yet to have had the retribution abilities even once ... 8)

What's fair is going for the leader with a vengence. I've yet to see retribution do anything particularly frightening on its own.

Of course, "on its own" is the key phrase there...

Definitely, it's OK to target the one who knocked you out. Teaches him a lesson in kindness. I also helped the evilinians win once (even though it was them who killed me, got infected early, so I considered them to be my slighly misbehaving children). Was great fun. The way I see it, there are no limits. Retribution is not to be enabled in competetive games, and I think in a game where it's normal that with just one bit of bad luck, a team gets consumed by evil, one should not take things too seriously.

(While I'm not eliminated, I sometimes hold back powerups just because my opponent is already down and I don't want to nuke him on top of that. Leave them a bit of hope, I say, so they don't quit/shut the server down. It works great.)

That isn't always the leader, though.

And? Teaches him a lesson not to kick the one who is currently down, but rather fight the current big bully.

I have no sympathy for those I smite. Perhaps my enemies should be a little be less blood thirsty.

Edit: IMHO, there should be no restriction.

I like to fight for the underdog...

If someone is dominating I'll help out the little guy...

Last night there were a load of Evilwinians gaining a massive foothold... So I sent some retribution their way whilst the other two players battled it out...

Unfortunately they still became all too powerful... but I did my part

I usually help balancing the game so that the last guy might actually get a chance...

I think it should be totally configuarable by the host... but then I think that about everything.

(I know Icepick's opinoin differs here :? ).

What about co-op games? Dose team-membership extend post-mortem? I once helped the enemy win after I died (Why? -for shits 'n giggles, of course) and my teammate got pretty pissed off...

I try to make things interesting, rather than destroy completely - if I can lay down a Dark forest to force everyone into one massive chokepoint, I will, rather than using it on a SP. If I get a nuke, unless it's to hit Evilwinians/Futurewinians, I usually with-hold it until all three other players are in one big fight... then drop it and watch them flee.
