Soul Destroyers are a pain in the ass. They are not easy to kill. They can be killed by squads (in Darwinia, use rocket squads), though the timing can be difficult. In either Darwinia or Multiwinia, basic turrets (not rocket or flame turrets) will do a pretty good job, but, as you say, they SDs can take out the DGs manning the turrets, so you probably want to keep a flow of DGs going to the turret. In Multiwinia, nukes and meteor showers have a chance of taking out SDs, but the timing is nearly impossible to plan for (i.e. you have to get lucky). Same problem with airstrikes in both games.

In short, use explosives or turrets. If your turrets are getting wiped out, place them a little farther from where the SD likes to hang out.

well at least they can be killed

well at least i know they can be killed. However i have the 360 version of the game so rockets from squads aren't possible but then again it sounds like it is still hard the kill them even with that. They are the only things keeping me from finishing the campaign and i really want to beat the game!

Wait... rocket squads were removed from Darwinia on the XBox?! I find that hard to believe... maybe you just haven't found the research cube yet?

Confirmed, no rockets or assault mode in Darwinia+, but still a good game.

Still, three turrets and some spare green guys are able to take down the soul destroyers with ease.

I also was able to do it on the pc using suicide squads. Take a squad close to the Soul Destroyer, and when it gets close to attack, spam a lot of grenades over close to the squad.
The success rate was pretty low, but I preferred that to sacrificing Darwinians.

In the PC version of the game, squads could use rockets, grenades, and airstrikes (though it could only use one at a time).

Right Trigger is Grenade, Left Trigger is Airstrike (Darwinia only), you can use both if you have enough sqaddies. The camera gets in so close to the squad in Multiwinia that it renders it virtually useless and makes me wish I just got an Engineer instead. Right Trigger and Left Trigger happen to also be the zoom buttons under normal circumstances.

That should be you brought up to speed.

Neither do I, but it was mentioned here and there.
