Do ants depend on souls?

I have noticed that the ants enjoy stealing the souls of my infantry and taking living men as well like some kind of sick leaf cutter ants.
But are they really dependent on souls? Do they require this genetic code to function? or is it simply used to nurture their colonies? Do they produce more soldier ants if they capture more souls? Just curious.

Based on what I've noticed, Armyants will use souls to multiply, but if they can't gain access to souls, and are stuck in their colony, they use up health from their anthill to create more, up until the anthill is destroyed.

Every time an ant returns to the nest with a soul (or helpless DG), the soul will be used to bring three new ants to life. Also, if an anthill has no ants/souls in it, it will lose 10% of its health, and 10 new ants will be created. Thus, if you can kill every ant that comes out of a hill, it will eventually die.
