An idea for a game mode.
While doing my favorite thing on Multiwinia(setting up a large match and getting purposely killed so that I can use retributions) I thought it would be cool to turn it into a gamemode.
God Mode:
God Mode would be a game mode similar to Retribution but it would have an interesting twist. Now say there are three teams red, green and orange. But instead of having a player control them they are completely computer controlled. Then a player would be chosen to be a "God" for whatever team he/she wanted. If you are a God you can do a multitude of things. You could place crates wherever you wanted(you would only have like three then it would maybe need 40 sec for another one to become available) or you could use the powers yourself. You can't control the multiwinians but you can influence them. For example maybe you could send them a message telling them to go on the offensive or to build up their defenses or maybe to focus on capturing spawn points(or whatever the objective is). There would also be specific God powers. Maybe something that would let you take direct control of your multiwinians for a minute or the ability to instantly capture a spawn point or objective. And of course you would be able to edit any options prior to the match(power up regen-rate, maximum God powers, what God powers and crates are available, how many Gods and NPCs there are, etc etc...). What do you guys think?
Edit: Just to clarify whatever Multiwinian team wins the player who is acting as the God for that team would win(for example if the AI controlled orange Multiwinians win then whatever player is the orange God would win the game).

I actually do think this could be a lot of fun, a game mode where the AI handles all the MWs while each player tries to use retribution powers to influence the game, helping their team and hindering others.
That's usually how I play MW, actually. I'll make it a half hour game or so, give everyone three starting things, then intentionally kill myself so I can start toying with things in retribution mode. I find it a lot more fun, and would love a multiplayer version of it.
My vote of "yes" is for a retribution mode style more similar to what I described, not necessarily the OP. But, I think we are on close enough pages.

I think that this is the first time in the history of the boards that someone has made a suggestion for a major change to any of Introversion's games that I wholeheartedly endorse. This sounds like fun! The post probably belongs over here, but... meh.

I assume that the winning scenario would be identical to any of the other game modes. The only difference would be that the DGs would behave more like Darwinia DGs, and less like Multiwinia DGs. It would probably be easiest to implement this in domination or KotH, and most difficult to implement it in RR or blitz, however even they should be possible.

Don't see why (but then, I can't code), the mechanics are all there, just need to set it so all teams run on the AI and remove user interactions (maybe by canceling or removing spawn ability for officers and removing the selecting ability). You can do it in single player without much trouble, the only thing being that you don't start out that way and which ever team you start on will be taken out of play.
jelco wrote: The trouble lies in how the game might check for retribution - is there a variable really stating a team is dead or does it simply count the amount of winians? The last one is difficult to trick.
It's based on a lack of spawn points, and as far as I can tell once the game says you're out you are out, even if you later get guys to take a spawn point. So, if you could rig it to initiate the spawning of multiwinians until after a player has been kicked into retribution mode then you should be able to do it.
What might be easier though for a quick and dirty hack is just to rig the game to play against itself in a zero player mode while enabling retribution for observers (if such is possible). Then you'd basically have each player picking their own team on an unofficial basis before the match started.
A third way to do it that wouldn't require any modding would be to have two people pick a team (not their own) in a 4 player game (ie, two humans, two ai's), turn on starting powerups, and then have both kill themselves at the get go. They would then each play on behalf of one of the surviving ai teams. Granted, this would only work for two people playing, and it would get all messed up if one failed to kill themselves (either intentionally failing or accidentally), but it would work to a degree.

And while in retribution, you still can order your troops around. Hmm. Dedwinia could handle the order blocks, maybe. I'd need to check. We wouldn't get the control over crate drops, though. All we'd get is that crates your team randomly picked up could be used by you. And I don't think letting the AI control the troops could work. I'd have to check whether both an AI and a player can share control, it works in Defcon, after all. However, if the AI is in control, it will use crates. Sorry, I don't really see a good way to hack this mode in.
