How to play Multiwinia on lan?

Me and my friend had bought Darwinia+Multiwinia on Steam. We really loved the Multiwinia, and we wanted to play on our own server. I tried creating the server, but my friend couldnt join me. Same thing when he created server. I installed Hamachi, my friend also did this, but Hamachi didn't solved our problem. Is there any way we can play together, on our own server?

I bought the steam version to get darwinia free with it, and Multiwinia is really nice, although I don't know why I'm feeling something's missing.I miss always having squaddies.
