Version differences?

Right.. Me and my friend have Steam version. 1.2.3. His friend has the one from the site. (demo + authkey = full game). 1.2.0. Wtf?
Since he's my friend's friend, I don't really have a direct way of talking to him atm, but I'll tr to get to that. However I don't think we will be able to reach an answer to the question: why doesn't it auto-update and why can't he join us?

It doesn't update because his autoupdater is behind a firewall, and it isn't being let past.

Nope, I finally got to chat with him and he said that it already updated once, but only to 1.2.0

Redownload the demo. There is a file in your game directory that says "authkey" and open it with a notepad, it will have your key for you so you don't have to buy another one. But if there isn't one, email one of the staff and they'll send another one for you. You should be fully upgraded then.

He already has an authkey.

Edit: Ok, he said he found the patch online (don't ask me!) and now it's 1.2.3. Strangely enough, when I tested it to see if it's a problem in IV, it updated to 1.2.4. Ignoring that, since I'm using Steam.

Steam version = 1.2.3
Demo/download retail version = 1.2.4

Enjoy. =P

NeatNit, that's odd. I would ask you to send us his autopatch_debug, to see what was going on, but I suspect it may already be too late, since he's run it successfully. :(

well I asked him to send it to me anyway, then the answer became quite obvious. Still, for some reason I have no idea what, he refuses to try and fix it, since he "already got his update" (which he downloaded off of RapidShare, and is 1.2.3).

Code: Select all

Autopatch version 003 2008-07-13 vista
Config{ dl = "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Introversion\Multiwinia\update",
        manifest = "",
        sizeOnly = No,
        respawn = No,
        launch = Yes,
        mode = "upgrade",
        doNothing = No,
        runCopier = Yes,
        revert = No }
APP_DIR: C:\îùç÷éí\Multiwinia
authkey file in user profile? Yes
authkey file app dir? No
version file exists? Yes
Appdir writable? No
Running Vista? No
RUNNING DOWNLOAD... DownloadItem{
   valid  = Yes,
   url    = "update.introversion.co.uk/autopatch/manifest.php?version=retail.iv.1.2.0&key={snip}&game=Multiwinia&mode=upgrade",
   write  = No,
   fpath  = "",
   resume = Yes,
}

Hmmm. The application directory isn't writable, but he apparently isn't running Vista.

Either he's running it in compatibility mode or the updater can't write to directories like C:\îùç÷éí\Multiwinia.

Right. I'm off to test this.

Edit: Nope.

Code: Select all

APP_DIR: C:\îùç÷éí\Multiwinia
authkey file in user profile? Yes
authkey file app dir? No
version file exists? Yes
Appdir writable? Yes
Running Vista? No

Seems to work fine. The directory must be write protected.

The directory is actually in Hebrew (משחקים which means games) so maybe since it has no choice but to translate to whatever this is, it gets the folder wrong? Tbh I have no idea. But whatever, he refuses to even try anything anyway, so any help you give me will be uselss... Thanks anyway guys.
