Those are clearly Metroids, which are not to be kept as pets.

Given that IV has named the units "space invaders," it seems logical to conclude that the space invader's shape is based upon the space invaders from the game. Furthermore, engineers are clearly based upon recognizers (thus, IV were clearly aware of Tron, and payed tribute in a different way). You might not think that IV did a very good job of duplicating the space invaders, but the fact remains that they are supposed to be space invaders, not recognizers.

They wouldn't have to keep repeating it if you didn't keep trying to say they are based off of a Recognizer.
