Hello, it's nice to see that tournaments are being run!

Could you please perhaps supply any details whatsoever about the tournament?

Thanks!

- TGF

(Yes yes, I know this is me being a bit snidey, but seriously, is this an online tournament? Or do people have to go somewhere? Do the rules mean that games like blitz, rocket riot and assault are out? Since with those you either win or you don't... Oh and are the winners really going to be decided by the scores they get in the 3 games they play? Wouldn't that mean that the really, the best players have to NOT play against each other, but weaker players so they get much larger scores, if they want to have a chance of winning?)

Ok, ok, I've been in contact with martinmir about this whole thing (servers are needed, after all), so here's some details that have been discussed (note that nothing can be considered final until set in stone by IV, after all, they and Logitech are the ones giving away the goodies). Please take the following as a "this is how it might go".

Games will be played in King of the Hill and Capture the Statue on the four four player maps
- Field of Unlife (CTS)
- Scorched Earth (CTS)
- A Monument to the Heavens (KOTH)
- Barbs of Madness (KOTH)
Settings will be the default settings with Sudden Death disabled (so there can be ties).

Not entirely by coincidence, those are the maps in rotation on "Dedwinia Test 4p".

For each game, each player will receive points according to the placings:
- The winner gets 7 points
- Second place earns 3 points
- Third pace earns one point
- the last player gets nothing
If several players are tied for a place, each will receive the average (rounded down) of the points they'd get otherwise. So if the two first players are tied, they both get 5 points.

The total points of a player will be determined as such: The worst single game is discarded, and then the points received for the three worst remaining games are added. (Note: that means playing less than three games certainly is bad, and playing more than four games is potentially bad.) The player with the highest sum of points wins. Ties are broken as follows: In addition to the points everyone receives for a game, your game score is also recorded, rescaled so the sum of the scores of all players is 100. Given equal sums of points, the player with the highest rescaled score in his best game wins. If the highest scores there are equal as well, the player with the highest rescaled score in his second best game wins.

To answer TGF's last question: yes, these rules mean it's of advantage to play against weaker players. But try to a) find the weaker players and b) make it so no other player thinking the same is in the same game :)

I would also suggest a more flexible timeframe. The server operation is completely automated, so I see no good reason not to extend the time by two hours.

Do we have to sign up, or just connect to one of the tourney servers at the right time?

Either way, I'm sure I can drag myself away from my books a bit earlier on Thursday...

It's safe to say you have to sign up. Otherwise, how would they know where to send stuff to? Also, to prevent trouble, it's probably a good idea to also state your keyID in your signup mail. It can be found in debug.txt in your Multiwinia Profile Folder (or <steam>/SteamApps/common/multiwinia if you're using steam).

Hurrah for CTS and KOTH! Definitely signing up for this :)
Based on those preliminary rules, would it be worth saying that no player is allowed to play more than 4 games? Seeing as in effect, no good can come of it, and it may even make things worse for you.

Well, as long as you won all previous games, no harm can come to you by playing another game, and you may improve your best score, and deny an opponent his points.

How about co-op play, is this ruled out yet? I would like co-op, I mine opinion less luck will be involved and I wouldn't mind sharing the goodies at all, with my team mate.
