Key for Multiwinia Steam?

Hi, I just downloaded and played the demo from the Introversion website, and the game is fantastic. I decided to purchase the game through steam, but as I'm running off of a linux box, there is a bug in wine that prevents me from launching the game through steam. Since I know the non-steam demo works great on my machine, is there any way to play the non-steam version of the game (without buying an additional copy)? My guess is not, but I thought I'd ask before giving up. Maybe I'll be able to play my shiny new Multiwinia game someday...

Your steam key for Multiwinia should be able to unlock the stand-alone demo into a full version.

Indeed, it does.
Just tried it being I use steam and I verified it does indeed unlock the demo into the full version.
So, this allows us to escape the Steam DRM that so many dread and still be able to use the game if Steam servers go down. \m/

Does STEAM regenerate the MW key the way it did/still does with Defcon?
If so, you might need to log into STEAM still, once a month or so, to get the new key.

Apparently, you keep your steam key forever (ie it's assigned to your account).
The only downside is you don't get achievements, because you're not running it through steam.

That's all kewl.
I still play through steam. But it's nice knowing if Steam isn't working, I can still play until it comes back up.

That's fantastic! Oh, I'm so excited! Does anyone know how I check what my steam key is? Thanks in advance!

It's in the text file <steam dir>/SteamApps/common/multiwinia/authkey.

IIRC it's not really a text file, but it opens with notepad.

It may not have the .txt extension, but that does not prevent it from being a plain text file. In fact, as Notepad opens it as a plain text file, I think that you have pretty much made my point for me. ;)

Ok, fine. Introversion seem to like changing extentions. (zip -> dat, txt -> nothing)
Evil.

There's good reason.
RAR files imply that something needs to be unpacked. This is unnecessary and (usually) undesired, in this context.
Naming a .rar as .dat keeps the easy unpacking, without the implied 'unpack + delete' directive.

Just to follow up - I have now tried copying my key over to my linux installation and it works perfectly. I'm trying to convince some coworkers to at least download the demo so we can try a lan game. Hopefully I'll be able to convince them to buy the game as well
