Slowdown even on high end (ish) PC!

Postby kiniki2004 » Tue Oct 07, 2008 7:48 pm

Had a 3 player KOTH game..

Halfway through 3/4 ants nests sprung up... Game started slowing down a fair bit...

On a Quad Core with Nvidia 8800!

I've played Crysis at mostly highest settings with no problem... Play MW, a game which souldn't trouble the PC at all and it starts falling down!

Mental... what kinda AI you got in those ants!?

They're probably smarter than the aliens in Crysis :)

On a more serious note, Multiwinia only uses one core. So at the same price, a dual core would give you more bang for the buck for this game.

Did the game slow down, or was there an FPS dip?

Really? I'll give it a try. Not that I need it. Core2Duo 2.2ghz + nVIDIA GeForce 8600m gs and I can run the game with entitys on med, everything else on high, and 4xAA on at the driver level.

I tried setting Multiwinia.exe to one CPU (q6600 @ stock 2.4ghz) and it actually decreased my fps (checked using the in-game fps meter in the beta) It was 32fps at a 20 minute game domination with ants nests, flaming forests etc. I alt+tabbed and enable Multiwinia.exe for all CPUs and fps bumped up to 60 and dipped down to 50 ish at times.

I know the game isn't multi-threaded but for me I prefer to keep it on all cores, just my limited test seemed to give better results that one core.

Can you set it to always run on a specific core/cores?

Or do you have to set the affinity each time you run the game?

The issue here is most probably the ant nests and as nothing to do with process affinity.
