Several simple, "little" questions.

Postby St!gar » Thu Sep 25, 2008 3:35 pm

These are several little questions that has accumulated over the course of several battles since I got the game.

I know putting Multiwinians into formations makes them more powerful frontally, but exactly what is it that they do? From what I've personally observed, a squad in formation can stand on a spot and defend it for ages, and it seems they have longer range as well. So they get a defensive boost and a range boost? I've heard something to the effect of the boost decreasing the closer the enemy is, but I haven't been able to confirm that myself. :?

Is there any difference, other than the visual, between Evilinians, Futurewinians and Multiwinians? Like how much damage they do or something? I'd swear the Evilinians seems to do more damage with their lasers, but that may very well just be me imagining things. As for the Futurewinians; I haven't met them yet. (Once, a UFO came and started sucking up Multiwinians, but the game ended before anything else had the chance to happen.)

Is there any way to choose the color of the AI player(s)? I know that only green, red, blue and yellow are "officially" part of the game's storyline, and so I guess it makes sense, from a canon point of view, to only have those colours for the AIs - since controlled by AI commanders are what they are within the storyline of the Darwinia universe itself - but I'd really like to be able to have my pink army go up against a cyan or purple tribe outside of the online mode as well...

As for the storyline - I know Introversion seems to prefer giving little cryptic clues about the backstory and exactly why everyone are fighting and how there came to be blue and yellow Dar(Multi?)winians in their map descriptions rather than giving us the full plot; but are there any plans to "leak" more information about the Multiwiniaverse in the future? And who the hell are dropping those crates, and what are they? :?

Can you use Subversion on Viral units and Evil/Futurewinians? I've never even gotten that power yet. And if you do, do they turn back into ordinary Multiwinians, or do they keep their sprites?

Is there any way to prevent your singleplayer game to show up in the server browser other than waiting for the patch?

*EDIT*

What does those *s after the names of the gamemodes mean? (For example "Domination *" or "Rocket Riot ***"). Does it signify how complex/advanced the game mode is, or something?

And exactly what is the difference between the three AI difficuilties?

That's about all of them. Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to help.

i have a question about formations too. to they work equally wellfor all sides, or is the front side the strongest and the back side the weakest?

These are the ones I have certain answers for :P

Subversion is used on your own units, and allows them to fire subversion lasers which will convert enemies to your team (also see xyzyxx's powerup list).

No.

As for formations, I believe that they increase the range of your lasers, and are most effective from the front. I'm fairly sure that Evilwinians and Futurewinians act the same as Multiwinians (except Futurewinians always fire subversion rays, and Evilwinians are immune to dark forests/virii).

A squad in formation stays in formation, meaning if you order them to rush a spawn point, you can be sure that they are not stopping for anything. It also appears to make them shoot more effectively in general, judging by the merry massacres one formation can do when the grenades don't come out.

Nope. Also, my pink, MINE!

Who knows? Maybe they'll even use this as canon.

Disconnect yourself from the internet after authenticating. Dirty, but it works.

Forgive my noobness but I have a question too.
Every time I join a game, my name is "Random Player".
If I put my name, as long as I play MW, it remains; but should I quit it retourns to Random Player!
Is there a way to fix it???

There must be a problem writting the preferences.txt file.

If Steam, locate the profile folder at [Your Steam directory]\steamapps\common\multiwinia
Else use the 'Open Multiwinia Profile' Windows start menu shortcut

evilwinians are always under the effect of RAGE. they shoot more often meaning more damage to their enemys.
evilwinians are also on the same team as soul destroyers and ants. so they dont kill them or get attacked by them/

futuewinians all have subversion. turning any winian they hit into more futurewinins.

i think formations increase both range and firerate. <- but cannot throw grenades or shoot rockets.

Another relevant point about Formations is that they are highly vulnerable to grenades. You can lose a large proportion of your WMs who are in a formation if the enemy lobs a grenade or two at them - the fact that they won't try to run away combined with their close-packing means heavy loses.

From what I've seen, Formations have only three effects:

1. They will not fire grenades.
2. They will not run away from danger.
3. They will not turn around and shoot things that are behind them.
Some people talk because they have something to say. Others talk because they have to say something.

Just remembered two I had forgot to ask.

What does those *s after the names of the gamemodes mean? (For example "Domination *" or "Rocket Riot ***"). Does it signify how complex/advanced the game mode is, or something?

And exactly what is the difference between the three AI difficuilties?

Yes, precisely that. Domination is the simplest mode: just grab the spawn points. KOTH and CTS add different primary objectives, but keep the spawns as auxiliary objective. And so on.

Nobody bothered to check, but the harder AIs are simply more active, while the easy AI just sits around more.

Ah. So they don't simply cheat, then. That's a good thing.
