some points regarding the game from a demo user

Postby zkl » Wed Sep 24, 2008 5:03 pm

hi,

there are some things iam curious about ..

- this is a multiplayer game, so why cant i even try lets say 10 games on a 1v1 map before i buy it?
from the demo you dont get any idea of the numbers of active players, of the game balancing or things like the game browser. btw i find it pretty easy to beat the hard cpu if i dont get ants sent to my spawn after the first one or two minutes. just imagine you only knew the defcon ai, you wouldnt buy it if they would kill your dog.

- this leads me to my second point: are this crates always dropping by chance? is there no game mode in which i can buy them for example for souls or kills in general? from my experience if the first crate is an ant it decides the game which is pretty lame

- are there only 4 player maps?

- is it possible to tell your darwinians in loose formation to throw grenades? cause to me it appears totally random and it can turn the game

- why is the game control so freaking lame? the camera and mouse speed seems suiteable for my grandparents but i am really annoyed by this (yes i discovered the shift button and iam inclined to put a stone on it or fix it by tape)

- why cant i assign groups via hotkeys?

- the tutorial didnt work for me at all. it didnt learn anything from it. i think i didnt do what i was exactly intended to do and the tutorial just stopped. that was very frustrating

- is it possible that the radar dishes are buggy? they are not explained, but as i understand i select one, target another and can transfer my units. but most of the time it simply doesnt do anything and drives me crazy

Bonsai (i mean yet another mikethewookie of cause  )

ps: hi shiny how is our manouvreTM going these days :)

Howdy! Long time no see.

This is true to most games, I don't really see why Multiwinia should be an exception. Ultimately, the decision is up to IV.

Crates are always random, although you can adjust their drop rate, how they are distributed and even if you want the default set or a more basic set which is basically only contains Darwinia's powerups and is, arguably, less game breaking

If by this you mean that the maximum amount of players is 4, then yes.

No. Working around this is part of the strategy of the game.

This doesn't seem to bother most people.

Why should you? It's not like the average unit lifespan is particularly big anyway.

If you intentionally disregard the instructions, then why are you complaining you didn't learn anything? True, the tutorial is not without its issues, but at least try to do it correctly before complaining.

Radars are explained at the beggining of the second tutorial. And not all radars can be aimed.

About balance, it's not really a problem in Multiwinia, because apart from crates everyone has the exact same resources available to them.

well if you didnt do what you were supposed to do (on the tutorial) then you cant be frustrated at the game. I personally had no problems, but I did play Darwinia so it didn't take me long to get into the groove of things.

And yeah the player base is great, peak hours there is always multiple people playing and when a new host pops up you better catch on quick because they get filled up fast. Or you could host your own, of course. I've never had to wait more than 45 seconds for (4) people to join.

The game browser is perfect. Not the best but it shows you what ya need. The number of players, gametype, the map and the hosters name. The only bad thing is that if a server has custom rules you have no idea.

I don't find the game control lame, coming from Darwinia it took me about 3 seconds to figure it out. Yes I prefer the typical RTS style square/rectangle selection box but the circle thing they got works fine.

And like the other guy said, groups with hotkeys isn't useful at all in this game. It's not to be a in depth RTS style game anyway. I personally wouldn't mind hotkeys but I bet in the end I would hardly ever use it.

and radar dishes arent buggy, you are just incompetent..do the tutorial.
