Play through the tutorials first if you haven't already.

Use officers to organize your troops into formations as much as possible.

Before attacking an enemy team, mass your troops into a single area before the frontlines and try to organize them to attack all at once.

Always keep columns of troops ready to defend key attack routes to your spawn.

Practice and don't worry about losing so much, just have fun.

There's no built-in friends system. Use Steam friends, or Xfire or something (although I have no idea what the Multiwinia support for either of those is like).
