Yeah well, really I mean that there's very little to work with - it's a lot better for it than Darwinia was though. Darwinia was very definate about some things, and barely mentioned others. Multiwinia says OH HEY EVERYONES AT WAR BOOM BOOM BOOOOOOM, with little mention of a lot of other things.

I mean, where do you think all these crate drops are comming from?

There is some back story there, and quite a bit of it is communicated in the level descriptions. As more levels are released, this will be expanded upon a little, but we don't really go into too much detail for a couple of reasons.
Here are a couple of extras for you:

The Shamans that are mentioned evolved from all of the Officers left behind after the Great War. They regained their self-awareness and because they were linked directly to the system, they were able to direclty manipulate Darwinia.

The current Green Multiwinians are directly descended from the original Green Darwinians. Reds are descended from the virus-infected Darwinians after they regained their freedom from the virus. I thought this was clear but there seems to be some confusion.

Surely all the other colors are descended from the red and/or green Darwinians, too?

In the same way that humans are decended from primates, sure.
Only Green, Red, Blue and Yellow are really considered part of the story though. The other 4 colours are just there for fun.

Would we be right in assuming that the Futurewinians are the original Rocketeers
from the first game, then?

Sooo... interbreeding?

Wait, what?

Orange = Yellow + Red
Purple = Blue + Red
Teal = Green + Blue

Pink = Red + Futurewinian o_o

Could also be random mutations in the genetic algorithms used in the Multiwinia's birth code :o

You thought maybe I played pink because it's fun to be Mr Pink?

Yes, we did because yes, it is.

I have to admit, I'd kind of hoped for more of a single player campaign, so the backstory is a nice addition, it gives you an idea of what's going on, even if there isn't a campaign as such (although, any chance of creating one guys? Heck, you could just string together some of the multiplayer maps with a narrative inbetween and I'd be satisfied).

OK, so maybe I should just get with the program and actually play online, but I tend to be time strapped and can't guarantee I'll stay for a whole game often, and I hate to be a quitter, so single player is where I find myself more often.

I would have thought that the reason the good doctor isn't interfeering is because he made Darwinia to simulate life and if he stoped them from fighting he wouldn't be able to use it to get a better understanding of humans hisrtory and were we are going. Or at least thats what I would guess this is all about right?
