What are the Multiwinia system reqs?
For the life of me I can't find this information on any of the official sources.

Given that Multiwinia is built on the same engine (more or less) as Darwinia, I would imagine that the system specs would be similar. So, from the Darwinia page in the store:
I would imagine that the "recommended" settings will be more or less required, though Multiwinia may need more hard drive space, and will not need a CDROM drive if you download. You might also look at the DEFCON requirements, as they will probably be similar.

- Windows 98, 2000, XP / Linux Suse 9.1, Debian/Sarge and Debian/Sid, Redhat 9.0 or later.
- 600MHZ processor (1.6GHZ processor recommended)
- 128MB RAM (256MB RAM recommended)
- Geforce2 or greater (Geforce4 or greater recommended)
- 30MB hard disk space
- CDROM Drive

No, it's not, if you have a decent soundcard that will do it all in the hardware... Same with graphics card.

I have a five year old PowerBook with crap graphics and a 1 GHz G4 processor. Darwinia runs reasonably well on that with everything on max, (though not great, and some of the more complicated levels bring me down to 5-10 FPS). If the graphics settings are turned down to low (not "I need to upgrade" where applicable), it runs even better. The_Goldfish has worked to benchmark various systems, and it seems that the Mac version of Darwinia is significantly slower than the Windows version. Thus, I can believe that Darwinia will run on a 600 MHz proc under Windows. It might not be great, and you might want to use lower graphics settings, but it should.
That being said, assuming that Multiwinia works like DEFCON, you will need to maintain a framerate of at least 10 FPS to stay connected to another player. Thus, the recommended specs should really be thought of as minimums, I think (unless, of course, IV have changed the network code around, or optimized the rendering code).

Well, during my testing, it seems... oh, sorry, NDA.
I have a laptop where changing the graphics options only means a difference between 30 FPS (50 without the pixel effect) and 60 FPS, if it feels like it. Usually though, it likes to decide something's up and spend a good few minutes at 5, before changing its mind and behaving. There's absolutely nothing distinct about what goes to affect that, not even process explorer will bring anything up. Seriously, I've looked. Sometimes when game goes slow, the CPU Usage for sound is 30%. Conversely, it's 8% at others. Sometimes the CPU goes up when a battle starts, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it happens in the middle of a battle. Sometimes it shoots up when an Officer tells Darwinians to haul ass, usually it doesn't. Sometimes the frame rate gets it shit together when my squad dies, almost always the squad didn't do anything to it in the first place. It's completely fucking random and it IS Darwinia causing it.
Between Darwinia and Deferred Process Calls (or as Task Manager likes to call it: Darwinia and only Darwinia), the CPU is over 95% in use during those episodes, where normally it's only maybe 70%.
1.86 GHz, GeForce6, 1 GB RAM.

Wading in here with some 'data', at the bottom of this page, and for those of you too lazy to click:
If those are real min specs to run it, rather than the specs to run it with all the bells and whistles, then I for one am happy I replaced my graphics card a couple of months back. Or maybe they're the Vista requirements, and the XP ones are lower (as in most games). Even so, it's still thin ice for my shitheap of a machine.
Minimum Requirements
* 2.0 GHz CPU
* 512 MB RAM
* Windows XP or Vista
* GeForce 6200 or Radeon 9600 series
* Internet Connection for multiplayer games

In Darwinia, there's generally only one battle going on the map at a time. That's because enemies in Darwinia don't usually go after you, they wait for you to come to them. Things obviously don't work that way in Multiwinia, so there's bound to be a lot more happening all across the map in this game. More action on screen, hence, the higher system requirements. (That, and the fact that MW has to deal with networking operations at the same time.)xander wrote:Given that Multiwinia is built on the same engine (more or less) as Darwinia, I would imagine that the system specs would be similar.
