Mac Version of Multiwinia
Moderators: jelco, bert_the_turtle
To you maybe, but you've got to be realistic here, hardly anyone makes games for the Mac at the same time as they do for Windows or Linux. 1 year isn't that long to wait, I've seen games out for windows for years only recently get Mac ports.
Introversion isn't big enough to make a Windows, Linux, and Mac version of their game at the same time. Deal with it.

It's your choice to stick to your "principles" and not buy Multiwinia if it doesn't have a simultaneous release: but that's much more your loss than IV's. Ultimately, IV are in a very small number of developers who even bother to release titles for the niche Mac gamers crowd. Yes, it might be late, but would you prefer it on the "never" release schedule?

Why? The number of Mac users is not much compared to the number of Windows users. You don't need to have a degree in Buisness to understand that the best thing for IV to make money is to concentrate on the most prolific platform first (Windows) and then spend time working on the rest. There's a few reasons why IV shouldn't do the Mac port in-house and there's even more why they should do the Mac port while the beta is still underway.
So the only thing absurd is you.

It's quite simple: I will not buy Multiwinia if it isn't released around the same time as the Windows version. I am tired of introversion constantly fucking mac owners over with their shitty, year late ports. They can keep their multiplayer Darwinia addon.
Lets look at this from a logical point of view, eh?
Uplink doesn't count, since it wasn't ported until after it took off (since at the time IV couldn't get people to port for them)
Darwinia was released on the 4th of March 2005, and the Mac port was released on the 30th of March 2005
Defcon was released on the 29th September 2006, but the Mac port was delayed due to issues with multiplayer compatibility. It took IV a few months to work out the issues, test them, solve them and release a port, so this is the only abnormal result, the Mac version was released on the 19th April 2007.
So, here we are with Multiwinia. The issues with cross-platform multiplayer have been solved, ergo the only issue now is porting it. I'd wager it would not be surprising to see the Mac port not more than 4 weeks after the Windows release. For a company that does not port the Mac version in-house, I think that's very good.
Now, what are you going on about "shitty" ports? Currently the Mac version of Defcon is 1.6, while the windows versions are 1.43. Who's getting screwed there? How about "year late"? The longest time between windows release and mac release (ignoring Uplink for the above reasons) is 7 months and 20 days. That's far less than a year.
You've joined here to complain. Nothing will change due to your voice, since IV needs money to stay alive, money will talk. If you're willing to provide coding skill to help IV port and publish a Mac version in-house, then call IV, otherwise stop bitching.
If you want, I can explain the blow-by-blow as to the reason why the Mac Defcon port was so late. Then maybe you'll understand it wasn't done to screw Mac users. Then again, I might grow wings and fly.

I believe that John takes the lead on the ports, but he is not entirely responsible for all of the porting. Ambrosia recently released a new version of Uplink, which brings the Mac version of Uplink to 1.6 (based on the 1.5 codebase) -- Miah did the first work on that port (he works for neither ASW nor IV), and the port was finished in-house at ASW. Darwinia was, as I recall, done almost completely in-house at IV, but there has been some collaboration with ASW since then to test and release patches. The Mac beta for DEFCON was run almost entirely by ASW, and the port was largely done by Mike (one of ASW's developers). I am sure that John oversaw the process, but it was not a one man show. I assume that ASW will be helping with the Mac beta of Multiwinia, and that they will be providing some of the programming expertise, as well.
Shwart!! wrote:Do you understand why they don't do Macs? It's a small company, and the programming languages used for Mac games are completely different.
Um... what? No... Code written in C or C++ (as IV's games are) can be compiled for the Mac. OpenGL is available on Mac. There are a few APIs needed for UI that are different, but a big chunk of the code can be ported straight across. This is even more true if you choose to ignore the few of us that are still running PPC hardware, and target only the MacIntel market.

Man, I hate fucking Mac userseven if I am one, myself. You are a fucking moron. Quite frankly, you should be grateful that IV even bother to release Mac versions. I can't think of very many indy developers that bother (there are a few, but not many). Why don't you go back into your little hole and leave us alone?

If they pull it off in 4 weeks that's fine, I am just saying that I am quite pissed off about the Defcon problem.
I did not just join here to complain, I've been a member for some time. This is my first post on the multiwinia fourm, however.

I'm so grateful I can pay introversion for the privilege of playing a game. Perhaps if you stop sucking IV's collective dick you will understand that my complaint is quite valid.
I don't think he can I'm afraid, he seems to be too wrapped up in righteous fury due to the pain and suffering that Introversion subjected him that he cannot let it go, he must champion his cause so that the many down-trodden Mac users like himself can free themselves from Introversion's evil yoke!
Or, he's just a whiny bitch. I go with the latter personally.

I can provably say I'm not "sucking IV's collective dick", and I still think you are a complete fucking moron without a valid point. Go be An Hero, or just wait for the Mac version and stop being an annoying whore.

No, your complaint is not at all valid. You are a whiney Mac bitch. You suffer from whiney Mac fanboism. If you were to stop sucking Steve Jobs' dick for more than five seconds, you might realize that Windows machines outnumber Macs by a ratio of something like 9:1, and that most Mac users are not also gamers. Thus, the market for games on the Mac is much, much smaller than the market for games on Windows. Developers recognize this fact, and tend to target the Windows market, because that is where they make their money. The fact that IV even bother to release Mac (and Linux) versions of their games puts them head-and-shoulders above most of the rest of the independent developers out there, and you should be grateful that they bother, rather than just assuming that you have an Intel machine and BootCamp.

Keep on being an idiot!
And yes, this is an Intel Mac.

That is quality flame, right there. You, sir, must make your parents proud! However, you may be able to improve your style by reading this guide to writing on the internet. I suggest that you pay special attention to the section labeled "2. Style".
