Why? The number of Mac users is not much compared to the number of Windows users. You don't need to have a degree in Buisness to understand that the best thing for IV to make money is to concentrate on the most prolific platform first (Windows) and then spend time working on the rest. There's a few reasons why IV shouldn't do the Mac port in-house and there's even more why they should do the Mac port while the beta is still underway.
So the only thing absurd is you.

Do you understand why they don't do Macs? It's a small company, and the programming languages used for Mac games are completely different. (edit: no? I thought there were some pretty significant differences... but never mind that point, then.) In order to work on both versions at once, and have them work together properly, it would take either hiring several new people to write the code basically from scratch, or however long it takes for Chris, Mark and Tom to learn a new language and write the mac code from scratch (probably around 2 years at the minimum).
And they're not disregarding it, they're arranging the project through a group that is good at mac software: Ambrosia SW. It makes more sense for Mac Multiwinia to be coded by people who can do it right and have the time to work on it than for IV to do it in-house.
If IV was larger, and had many more programmers, then maybe simultaneous multi-platform launches would be feasible.
If you think it should be in-house, and released on the same day, then you should contact them and tell them that you will be coding the Mac version in the next 19 days. See how that flies.
EDIT: Geh! Triple ninja'd!

One of the recent interviews on IGN indicated that the 360 is the lead platform and that they'd "also release it for PC". This would be accurate from a business perspective, but is it really the case?

That depends. You must remember that if a game is targeted for the 360 to start with and is by a large company, then any 360 owner not only knows about this game, but they are also safe in the knowledge that it'll work on their 360, so they are technically more inclined to buy it. Combined with the fact that 360 games are rather expensive compared to PC games then it does make sense to target the 360 over the PC, if you can afford to develop that way around.

It's quite simple: I will not buy Multiwinia if it isn't released around the same time as the Windows version. I am tired of introversion constantly fucking mac owners over with their shitty, year late ports. They can keep their multiplayer Darwinia addon.
