From what I've read in this blog and news outlets it seems that no one ever mentions The Clue or it's sequel The Sting!, which seems to be closer to this game than any other game that get's mentioned.

In these games you'd hire a team of specialists, select targets, case a place, manage/buy equipment, balance your exposure/heat, and of course infiltrate and steal as much as possible while making a clean getaway.
So these were a lot more than just avoiding guards. There was a lot of mechanical systems in place that needed to be dealt with. Considering how similar this appears to be I think a lot can be learned from the mistakes that game made. If I get some more time I'll go into their failures in detail.

I think it's safe to assume that Subversion is more than "just avoiding guards" ... The blog included very detailed electrical and security system diagrams, all using logical switches and all of which interact with the environment in an organic way. I keep recalling the "covering a sensor with a wad of gum" comment made in an early blog entry... I have a feeling this game is going to be very detailed and natural-feeling; not contrived and procedural like other spy games.
