Financing development via preorder

Postby wallnuss » Thu Feb 18, 2010 5:35 pm

Hi guys,

a few days ago I stumbled across another indie game (Overgrowth made by wolfire -> http://www.wolfire.com/overgrowth).
These guys have a very interesting financing model, to keep the development running they are selling preorders including an alpha access, so the people how want to get this game done and want to help with finding bugs, get invovled by already starting to make mods or keep in touch with the developers and share their ideas with others, can help financing the game.

And for the developers are also several pros like asking the players "hey what do you thing about feature x in context z" or getting an very earlier feedback if they are going into the right directions.

Maybe this model will help IV to get Subversion done even if D+ is not working as well as hoped (hope it will work ^^)^.

PS: and yes I wanna play Subversion NOW (even if it is pre-pre-alpha)

PSS: I had a forum acc several years ago but I don't rember the name must be something like wallnuss

I think this idea has been mentioned before. I think IV haven't reacted to it yet.

Don't you mean post-pre-alpha?

It's an interesting model, but it can cause bad blood if people don't eventually get what they pay for (c.f. the 'Legionnaires' movie project in the '90s).

IV gave the impression they're doing okay from D+ after a week's sales. Not Earth-shattering but good enough for their plans.

I'll chime in even more strongly.

I'd be ready to pre-order Subversion with absolutely no additional demands. I can and I love what you're doing.

I'd be more than ready throw in 50 bucks as "advance funds" for that game, if that even pays ONE additional hour where Mark doesn't say "OK, Chris, you're done" :D

You can quote me on that. :D
