This. Maybe this is the kind of topic which should have its own space, rather than spamming an unrelated thread.

Because they seem replicas of each other.

We understand the sentiment, but +1-posts never really worked (especially not when the thing being +1ed is basically a topic hijack). At least if some arguments were being given and an attempt to convince was being made, you could label this a proper discussion but instead it's more like a bunch of people shouting "we're with many, we should be heard". Posting here is not going to magically get people to take you seriously, listen to your ideas or even get people to care that you have anything to say - if you want to make a statement a little more effort is always appreciated. Especially around here.

So to be clear, this has absolutely nothing to do with the message you're all trying to bring across. Just the terrible way it's being presented. ;)

Is making a request related to the Humble Introversion Bundle in this thread a topic hijack? It seems like a logical location to me. Also, there have been reasons stated for the Desura request. Granted some may only be opinion, but not all the posts are +1. Perhaps many of us are not familiar with the community in this forum, but it's not like the requests are rude or demanding. The Humble Bundles are very popular, and Desura is gaining in popularity. Two of the Introversion games are already on the Ubuntu store, so it doesn't seem like an outrageous request for Desura support. I'm fairly certain if this current bundle didn't have Steam keys included, there would be a lot more people "hijacking" this thread.

Some reasons then?
Steam supports the Windows and Mac versions. Desura can support the Windows and Linux versions.
Desura is distribution agnostic. The Ubuntu store only supports Ubuntu.
Some posts here stated they would buy the bundle, or increase the paid amount if Desura was included.
Almost all bundle titles supported Steam and Desura. Those of us that have purchased all the bundles might like to continue that trend. (opinion)
Publishing the Introversion catalog on Desura could help increase sales. (opinion)
The Humble Bundles get a lot of traffic. Making the decision to publish through Desura during the current bundle could draw some positive attention to Introversion. (opinion)

So some of the reasons may just be my opinion, but that does not mean those statements couldn't also be true. I chose to post in this thread since my request was directly related to the bundle, and that adding Desura could possibly increase sales for Introversion. Take a look at the stats, Linux buyers are in second for total dollars, and also pay the highest per buyer on average. If the bundle sale was over, I would have started a new thread or sent an email.

To those that feel this was a derail or hijack, it was not my intent at all.

Regardless of Desura support, I am glad that I purchased the current bundle, and I am looking forward to playing the games that I have wanted to try for a while now. Am now also aware of Introversion's next game.

I apologise for my +1 & my presentation, it was not my intention to de-rail the thread and I would draw your attention to the first post:

Chris wrote:If you approve of the Humble Introversion Bundle please help us to spread the word as far and as wide as possible! Like it, tweet it, Google+ it, even tell your friends verbally. And make sure you are signed up to our channels to hear all the Introversion news first.

I do very much approve of the Humble Indie Bundle, and if the only result of my purchase is I get to spend some time with an old friend or two (Darwinia & Uplink) on my Linux box I will be that bit the happier - I'm more than capable of installing Introversion's awesome games without a game client. This also does seem a logical place to discuss this, apologies for not taking more time to get a feel for the Introversion forum before writing my first post - re-reading it it does seem a bit fanboyish but perhaps this can be put down to a certain amount of enthusiasm? It seems to me that one of the purposes of the Humble Bundle generally is to make games accessible to as many groups as possible whether they be using Windows, Mac or Linux and wherever possible has included keys for game clients (Steam, OnLive & Desura):

http://www.humblebundle.com/ wrote:Cross-platform.
The games featured on the shelf work natively on Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows.

There was also a recent poll from Desura asking if the community would like to see more support for commercial or Indie games:

http://www.desura.com/polls/you-would-like-to-see-desura-staffs-special-focus-on-publishing

As you can see Indie games were in the majority at 66%.

The poster above me has identiifed some reasons for Desura support and I would like to add that it seems logical that Desura would be a great home for Introversions games, as the audience is pre-disposed to this communities "type" of game. The audience over at Desura is enthusiastic and already buying Indie games. I would suggest (opinion) that if Introversions games do appear on Desura it would add to the momentum of support for your next game (which I hadn't known about until being directed here) and sell more copies.

Jalister may have been the first to post a Desrua key request but I was the one to post this thread to the Desura forum. I figure the more people make their desire for Desura keys know the more chance of it happening. This is not the only place I have requested Desura keys - I have also used Twitter posts, posts on Desura forums and emails directly to the Humble Bundle folk & directly to developers.

@jelco - if you have a better idea I would love to hear it. In my post I noted why I like to use Desura and also noted that I'd put my money where my mouth is if keys are added (and I forgot to mention, I already own most of the Introversion games on Steam & Aquaria/Crayon Physics via previous bundles, so my only incentive was that the games might be released on Desura) - what more should I do?

I felt this was relevant to the topic because I would like to see Desura keys for the Introversion added to the current bundle (many might not know but previous HiB bundles included both Steam & Desura keys).

I did forget to put a congratulations in my post - congrat's Introversion, it's a great thing to be included in a Humble Bundle :)

Now you're getting somewhere. Honestly to me there is little connection between a Humble Bundle and Desura (regardless of previous bundles, it's still an enitrely separate distibution platform) but at least now I understand why they're connected to you. The difficult thing with the "we all come from the Desura forums" argument is that there's a kind of common mindset/knowledge there that you simply don't have here. The fact you used other media as well is also something you only just mentioned so honestly it's a little unfair to call me out on ignoring it. A little more context/explanation is always useful when you're entering a new community. ;)

I may have been a bit ambiguous about my own opinion before but let me make it more obvious: I agree Desura might be a good opportunity for IV. However I still feel you should make a case for this in a separate topic.

Oooh, shiny. Dungeons of Dredmor and source for all IV games added. Yep, that includes DEFCON. Want to find out whether fighters can shoot down nukes? Now you can.

What appears to be the full keygen code for Defcon is there too, which slightly surprises me.

Same for multiwinia as far I've seen. But EULA still applies no matter what.

Without having looked into it, I think the fact the metaserver requires knowledge of keys for them to be functional plays a big part.

Oh, my beautiful manly men of gods of developers!

Humble Bundle subscribers get source access to Uplink, Defcon, and Darwinia/Multiwinia! It's such a beautiful day.

Please send Chris and Mark the profits from the sale of your first born. They are gods and deserve sacrifice.

Is it true you get 5 working keys when you get the source code anyway? (I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere)

Delighted and surprised that the IV source code was added to the bundle. I'm very intrigued to see the code, thank you IV :)

Didn't see any instructions for building on the Mac in any of the 3 wiki's, so curious how easy that is.

As an aside, howdy. I'm new but old here; fairly positive I used to have an account on these boards but my typical username was free which suggests either I wasn't or my account was closed due to inactivity.

[EDIT] Seems I have some tinkering ahead of me, the Darwinia Xcode project won't open in Xcode 4.2. First attempt at opening the project nuked Xcode :)

Are we able to request changing password in some case?
As far I noticed, good thing that we won't get badges for owning D/MW source code, as then it would be unfair to those who bought farewell.

And getting 5 more keys wont happen in humble bundle, one key should be enough. The only exceptions are blacklisted ones :P

I feel dirty paying $5.07 for god-like source code.

Clearly you haven't seen the source code of Uplink...
Uplink help: Check out the Guide or FAQ.
Latest Uplink patch is v1.55.
