Xiotex - demo

Postby Byron » Wed Jan 21, 2009 10:24 pm

I managed to get a PC build of Xiotex up and running so just like the Mac build I am putting it up for download for anybody who wants to see the progress so far. The demos can be found at:

http://www.xiotexstudios.com/builds/XiotexBuild.dmg for the OSX version

and

http://www.xiotexstudios.com/builds/XiotexBuild.rar for the PC version

The controls are:

Up : Move forward
Down : Move backwards
Left : Turn left
Right: Turn right
Space: fire

The demo is the result of just over 3 weeks worth of work on this game from scratch using just a couple of classes I wrote before to load the mesh files so there is not a lot to see and certainly no gameplay. The graphics are all placeholder too. The Mac version has run on a couple of machines now but I haven't tested the PC version on anything beyond the PC I build the exe on. There is no loading bar so each one will appear to be doing nothing till everything is loaded - be patient :). Do a virus check before you run the PC version just in case my system missed something given the nastiness currently running amok.

At the moment D+ is consuming all my time but as soon as the current craziness is over I will be dedicating more time to getting some gameplay into Xiotex but until then happy shooting stuff.

I love the explosion of the rings.

Like the rest said, very nice work for three weeks in.

And thanks for the Win32 build!

Files are clean. Scanned with VirusTotal:
XiotexWin32.exe: http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/43b0 ... 5d2b7c0cd3
SDL.dll: http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/9bea ... e2d0ce3489

VirusTotal is great, definitely a keeper. :)

Hey its pretty cool really good for 3 weeks. I played it on PC.
Not sure if you wanted feedback? I'm sure you said you were going to tweak it but it does totally spin my head out when you tilt, the effect certainly i like but for me needs to be slower and more gradual, to give more of a swooping feel. It could reach tha angle but only after more time while still turning perhaps and that wouldn't spin me out.
Cool stuff, keep going. :)

All feedback welcome. I'm not precious about my code.

Pretty! I'm surprised you released something so early.

Looks like things are going well so far.

Dude, I had to go and shower in neat bleach after doing the PC version, to make a Linux version would require bathing in the coolant of a Nuclear power station to get clean and unfortunately there aren't any near me so you're out of luck.

Only joking - would love to except don't have Linux.

Or Vista..
