no, because don't forget that it was originally a game company with no darwinians; I would imagine that the DRA logo changed to look more like the darwinians at a later stage.

As always, kids have been subject to new marketing practices, long before adults realise...
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/issue/86/13
I remember ads embedded in neopets from years ago...
Often marketing execs know more about what a child is doing online than the child's parents...
'Viral' advertising started with online games & sites for children - the whole idea of ads in games, or even ads as games, is not new, and is still aimed at kids like the McDonald's cartridge of yore...
Unfortunately, the tactics aren't quite so blazen as they used to be. At least a parent could refuse a kid to play a Chuppa Chups game, beacuse they could clearly see it for what it was...

To err is to be human,
but if you really want to screw things up
- get a computer

I heard they were putting Ads (billboard ads) in Counter-Strike 1.6. There's a way you can run the beta version of this ad system and it has painfully obtruse placeholders from the screenshots I saw.
http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthr ... did=120512 and I think those are just placeholders until they get real sponsors
(i didnt read this whole thread so if someone already mentioned this: my bad)

God I didn't know they were doing that in 1.6.
If i had paid for that game I would be thoroughly cheesed off (in a bf2142 kind of way) but as cs 1.6 is free, and I don't play it anymore, It doesn't bother me so much.
Ads in context are ok. I think it will be hard to avoid online ads in games for much longer.

(this is re martins dodgy buildings!)
For some reason that U Corp building reminds me of G Police.
Anyway, rather than a dodgy looking warehouse, I always imagined some half maintained, fairly messy house with consoles just tucked anywhere and everywhere (including on lamp shades) and wires all over the place, book cases half full of books but with consoles slotted earily neatly in between... Dr S scrambling around with a fire extinguisher ever time a soul destroyer took out a soul or two, axing out conduits to curb the spread of infection - possibly an atomic toaster somewhere in the midst - sort of like a last action hero of the computer science world, heh.
I'm also fairly certain the global reset button was a paper clip.

the only problem with that is 10000 consoles is actually quite a lot! If we imagine them to be roughly the size of an xBox then his house would have to be huge and have A LOT of books to need holding with protologic bookends

I just saw another article (can't find it at the moment) and it quoted someone from Valve saying that the CS 1.6 ads are just a test and they wanted to see how the community responds to it
and then the article says that means ads might come to source after the supposed 1.6 "test"
ads in the spectator letterbox area, scoreboard, and game map is just lame. When I view my scores I don't want to know how to make my penis larger (exaggeration, I know..but still)
