Dirty Harry Potter wrote:I know some are having problems playing the vid (me included actually, at least on my desktop comp), so I took the liberty of uploading it to Gametrailers.com as a usermovie, and can be found here. The only thing that requires is flash, so you should have no problem viewing it.

If Introversion wants me to I can take it down :S

Always better to ask for forgiveness, awhat?

It's just I didn't ask for their permission to upload it there, though I doubt it's a problem as they have it up for free download here anyway, but just in case they mind (which is what I meant), then I can take it down.

That was my point. There is a phrase that goes "It is always better to ask for forgiveness than premission." Meaning that if you do not know if something is permissible, it is better to go ahead and do it, and be told later that it was a bad idea; than to ask for premission, and be denied. If you ask for premission, you may be unable to do whatever it was that you intended to do; if you go ahead an do it, then ask for forgiveness, the offended party may be more likely to allow you to continue. Even if they tell you to stop, at least you did it in the first place.

I got your meaning but?
There is a phrase that begins "It is always easier ..."

Anyway I'm sure Dirty Harry Potter got "premission", aren't you?

I don't think it matters to xander's point whether or not the phrase has 'easier' or 'better', and they're both perfectly valid permutations of the same adage. Also, question marks and carriage returns mid-(nonsensical)-sentence are an evil abomination.

More Drivel

I apologize, I'm such a rube n00b.
Proceedural content translates to virtual 3D synthesis.
Isn't FM synthesis a valid analogy to this visual synthesis?
Methinks FM is still way ahead, and still developing.

I need a Microsoft to English dictionary. Babbelshark?

Some people talk because they have something to say. Others talk because they have to say something.

Proceduralism is power

Postby iestyn » Thu Feb 08, 2007 8:18 am

Bravo. It's good to see someone else who clearly understands the (increasing) value of procedural methods in game technology.

Procedural methods have given people working in film great power, speed and flexibility for many many years (even Tron was largely procedural!), but as you rightly say it's becoming more and more relevant to games, and virtual worlds technology in general. As the size, detail and complexity of games keeps expanding and as the compute-bandwidth gap keeps growing (at an increasing pace, now that parallelism is catching on), there can be little doubt that proceduralism is a big part of the way forward. Not to mention that it's just so damn powerful for the kind of exploratory, iterative development that you guys excel at.

Keep up the good work :)
