Modern Movie Graphics Design/Choreography
Modern Movie Graphics Design/Choreography
Do you think modern movie graphics/choreography has deteriorated? Listening to Introversion's podcast, about Tron's aesthetic, it made me think about other movies. You don't see many movies that compare with the Ten Commandments, Star Wars, Tron, etc. I think it has deteriorated.
Re: Modern Movie Graphics Design/Choreography
What do you mean by "deteriorated"?
Have they changed? Certainly.
Have they changed for the worse? Subjective, but I would say no.
Have they become less distinct? Maybe, but arguable - there are plenty of visually distinct movies still being made, and I'm sure there are plenty of old movies that are visually uninspired.

Re: Modern Movie Graphics Design/Choreography
Sturgeon's law asserts that 90% of everything is crap. This includes both new and old movies. However, we tend to preserve the good stuff and forget the crap, hence is appears that movies used to be better (have better design, choreography, and so on). Comparing the entirety of modern cinema to the quality older films that we still remember is somewhat unfair.

Maybe, but as Xocrates said, its subjective. I'm 14 but i saw some old movies, i dont think its worse now, just different.

Nice.
I suspect it's the younger generation making reference to the CGI parts of Step Up IV.

Graphy means study.
Re: Modern Movie Graphics Design/Choreography
In what context?
Probably not in choreography. And for sure it has the same genealogic origin as graphics. (greek for writing)
And in the context of movies both should at least commonly mean to create something for others to look at.
The thing is just that graphics are thought of as heavily depending on technically progress, while choreography is not, but thats changing also with time and also with technical possibilities.
However, I don't like the term choreography for movies. For me it means a coordinated movement of many to express something. While a movie applies to it, it's super unspecific, because a movie is nothing else then but choreography. I rather would call it storytelling.
