The farm is awesome.

Our Nether seems frightfully labyrinthian, though.

If I was to recreate the nether hub (as a collection of floating platforms connected by bridges safeguarded by iron bars), at what elevation should I do it?

Elevation 32 is where the lava lakes are - this is a possibility.

Elevation 48 is a bit above the lava lakes, but still fairly close.

Elevation 64 is smack in the vertical middle of the Nether.

I think Elevation 64 is ideal. Thoughts?

This sounds like a good idea. We can probably up the limit later if needed.

I'm not too fussed about the current situation; as long as there're roads with directions people will find their way. But if you want, we can do it, and level 64 sounds pretty good. Or, we could build the hub really high up near the ceiling of the nether. That way we wouldn't need to build platforms, but just dig into existing nether rack.

In any case, moving all the portals will be quite a chore. There're maybe around 20 of them now.

Edit: I marked down the coordinates of the portals I know of, and that are within a reasonable distance from spawn:

Code: Select all

Name                   Overworld X/Z   Nether X/Z    Orientation
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Spawn                  0/0             0/0           N-S
Dome                  -256/0          -32/0          N-S
Ilenius               -198/-144       -25/-18        N-S
Mazuffer              -542/-137       -68/-17        E-W
Pr3 1                 -415/-485       -52/-61        N-S
Pr3 2                 -617/-488       -77/-61        E-W
Castle                -735/-280       -92/-35        E-W
Vioxtard               185/468         23/58         N-S
NeatNit                113/319         14/40         E-W
OrangeJuice            62/390          8/49          E-W
Heymattay Home        -845/365        -106/46        N-S
Oceanic Gateway       -632/689        -79/86         N-S
Unnamed (heymattay)   -1068/312       -133/39        N-S
heymattay #4           539/663         67/83         N-S
Village               -2387/561       -298/70        E-W

The measurements were done in the overworld from the center of the portal. Nether coordinates are calculated and rounded to the nearest integer. I might plot these on a diagram so we get a better idea what the hub should look like. Not quite bored enough for that yet, though.

Ignore the stray white dot.

Double-post, sorry.

We have, I think, two options. The first is what is already started: straight lines.

The second is this.

it's effecient!

It's also messy and unnavigatable :3

I propose we make a minecart system with stations and stuff. I made a design that stops your minecart and lets you pick which direction you want to continue in (either go back or continue forwards), what this means is we can make a whole train system to reach the destination efficiently. It isn't TOO expensive (requires a bit of redstone and 4 sticky pistons per station), and will be totally awesome when it's done.

We can easily add signs to tell which direction something is. This will be the greates hub ever!

I might not be thinking straight, but I can't tell.

Edit: I will see if I can adapt it to 3- or 4-way, but I don't think so. There are some different solutions to this problem though.

How compact is your design? Is it bi-directional? I think we want compactness most of all.

Can also reduce about a block or two in width.

Pros:
Fuckin awesome
Allows easy minecart transportation system
Fun

Cons:
Visible sticky pistons (unsolvable, part of the idea. I don't think it looks too bad)
Cart has to be slow enouch to be stopped by a single (un)powered track. (well actually, now that I think about it, we can make it so two will stop it, it doesn't matter. We just have to make sure it stops in the track right between the buttons)

This is probably compactable.

Furthermore, it is not bi-directional (meaning all trains will go on the same track - do we want this?)

Looks neat though.

Well, we can make two tracks of these with a fairly simple way of making a cart switch to the other side if it's going in the other direction. Really though, the odds of two people bumping into each other in the nether are slim. Very slim.

We could also just do something simple, though not as fancy (however immensely more compact): http://youtu.be/FhGLRrSFlqE

Also, why quote the message just above? For truth?

Compromise?

Slightly less compact than yours, slightly less pretty than mine.

Suggestion:

Image

Brown are rails,
Purple are station points,
Yellow are walkways to portals
Green is the Darwinian, with its own dedicated train. Small time.

EDIT: NeatNit and I have started construction according to the plan above.
