just been messing with minecraft server application on my spare time.. thanks to flumps and ilenius for those inputs.
test PC was running @ home with specs:
IBM 8143
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 640 with HyperThreading Technology
3.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB cache, Prescott
4Gig DRAM (Brand: Adata)
3.5″ Internal Tray-less Hot Swap Rack (Brand: Kingwin) Swapping Win 7 and Ubuntu Linux as needed
Zotac 9800GT 1GB
500GB Master (Hitachi)
500GB Slave (Hitachi)
connection: 6mb download / 0.85mb upload.
made a small village. so far no lag when there's 3 ppl logged in. crossing fingers... still kinda suprised this machine can run it... maybe its because its an IBM

made it limited to 4 ppl allowed logged in as we don't get that much people playing at the same time. also got bukkit, worldedit, worldguard, rhino working just needs a bit of tweaking.
hopefully it will be permanently online oneday for us IV loyalist.
also thinking of another project:
1. some kind of redundancy (ie.. mirroring zach's minecraft world/map to my server) so if one server fails it switches to another server without player interruption, if thats even possible with our off the shelf hardware.

Doubtful.
It would be interesting to have a 'public' server though.

Got a test server running can you IV regulars please try it out. just want to see how it performs using the same specs as i posted couple of days ago with some tweaks(software side). mind you its just 4 slots for now. the whitelist that zach has is pretty much what i included on my list..
so DON'T ask me to whitelist you if you can't access it. I will be running it on and off for a couple of days depending on how i screw things up

Maybe in a couple of months? I think a date should be established well in advance.
I would like to keep it for a year. It isn't that long time in "minecraft time" imho.
Also, gigantic mob grinder wip: http://minecraft.introversion.co.uk/map ... 404/-1/day

Could be, but I would suggest we use Creative mode for that
Totally not!
Although we should probably do that on a fresh map.
How do the rest of you feel about July 1, 2012?

6 minutes until my suggestion was shot down. Not bad
On the subject. Remember that hole we were digging in one of the old servers? The one we never finished and spawned TNT like hell to create?
Yeah, this one would either as big or twice as big (depending whether sea level is moved to 128 or not) and doing it "legit" would mean not using TNT.
Have fun digging
(also, knowing you, you would probably end up suggesting we do it in gold blocks or something )
On the other hand, being able to do a v3 at sea level is something to consider.

On the plus side, I believe exam season ends around that time, on the minus side, Darksiders 2 is set to be released on the 29th June so *shrug*
