New Steam for Mac!

Postby scottystreet » Fri May 21, 2010 8:17 am

Recently, Valve released their award wining gaming platform for Mac. This sparks the question: what's IV going to do about it? I know you're busy right now - but this is such a simple job, as all (correct me if i'm wrong) IV games are already ported. Got to run now (school) but this is a project well worth looking at.

Simple job, if not for the legal issues.

I'm sure you're aware that the porting/publishing contract with Ambrosia makes things a little difficult.

Also, boo, Mac Steam is for x86 only.

Is there anything on Steam that would run on a PPC Mac? Or am I missing something?

Plant's vs. Zombies, I think. Which, yeah, isn't on Mac steam yet, probably. But the fact that the games themselves are not ported to PPC (unless they use Assembler code, of course) is part of the complaint. The faint complaint. I realize not many people in their target audience still have PPC Macs.

TF2 isn't out for Mac yet. Because of the beta, it's not showing up in your games list at all, rather than doing the normal thing.

So... Do I have possitive response from most? (This must be the first time!) IV, get on the phone to Ambrosia ASAP! This is a good opportunity.

I've gone mad buying games for Mac. The general Steam interface is no different, but it runs quite sluggish. Any other thoughts on how it works?

It's not that positive. Legal issues are never a simple job.

Is that everyone's "soonish" or Valve's Episode-three-is-almost-ready "soonish"?

Somewhere in the middle. It will probably happen before Duke Nukem Forever comes out.
