I simply love creating the sprites, and I'm somewhat of a map designer...

Maybe...
Do you have a concept?

I was hoping we could brainstorm for an awesome idea...

I'd be willing to jump in as well on that, if it decides to go anywhere. You know, for a walk and stuff. :)

If anyone has an idea, feel free to express it. I was hoping for some type of theme in the story, you know, not just mindless zombie shooting, explosions, and, (dare I say it) gravity flipping.
You know...same old, same old.

I want the player to learn something.

Yeah maybe throw in some innovative game mechanic, but there needs to be storyline...

Hmm...

Personally I don't think we should go for a story focused game at this point. Mostly because the more story there is the more custom content would be needed, but also because right now he have little way to convey it with anything other than images and text.

I'm all for building the game around a theme, but I think we should try and get something that would be fun to play first and add a plot later, preferably a plot that's either token or easily ignored (which doesn't mean it can't be interesting).

I don't think we should be trying to be too ambitious in a first project, lets just worry into getting something that regular people would like to play.

Yeah... too bad that was the lesser of my problems with it.

Elaborating, we cannot have a game where we are simply shoving the story down the player throat, what that means is that we either have a game where all the story is told in some striking visuals and short text snippets, which means many players would probably ignore it, or we do a story heavy game like an Adventure Game or RPG which would require insane amounts of custom content.

I'm fine with the first one, but that may (or may not) collide with your idea of the player having to "learn something". The second one is virtually infeasible with our resources unless you're willing to spend months, or years, developing the game. Which I don't think is a good idea at this point.
