Thinking of purchasing Anthology, few questions

Postby BobCzar » Thu Apr 22, 2010 2:43 am

Hello,
I've had the demos for Darwinia, DEFCON and Multiwinia for quite some time but have never got around to purchasing them. I'd like to buy them, but have a few questions.
First off, I've done some searching for the answers on the forums and didn't find any answers. If I missed them, please point me in the right direction.

The anthology on the store is $45USD, yet the Steam versions are $10 each, both do not include tax. Is there any reason the Steam version is cheaper?
I know that DEFCON and Multiwinia use a serial system, so they are both cross-platform. If I buy Darwinia and Uplink, are they restricted to one system per purchase, or can I get both versions with one purchase? I'm looking to get both the Windows and Linux versions.
Does the Steam version include Linux versions?
How active are the online communities? I've heard that both DEFCON and Multiwinia are somewhat quiet online. If so, how entertaining is single-player?
Lastly, if I purchase the games through the Introversion store, is there a restriction to how many times I can download them?

The steam version doesn't have the option come in a pretty metal box, containing all the games in their own lovely boxes. Also the introversion version will let you run the games on linux as well as windows (where applicable, see other forum threads).
Steam has no linux version HOWEVER for Multiwinia (at least) you should be able to download the demo, run it in linux and use your steam key to upgrade it to the full version.

The DEFCON community is fairly active, Multiwinia not quite so but people will answer your questions.

There is no restriction as to how many times you can download games through the IV store. For defcon and multiwinia at least, you can just download the demo anywhere anytime and upgrade it to the full version with your key. Also if you choose to have a box you can still download the games instantly.

But the Steam one is $5 right now, so Hehe.
"Surely you didn't mean to press that button just then did you?"
"No, nor will i disarm the nukes."
"Oh well, I will have my Fighters shoot them down."
"Sure you will."

yeah, I bought it off of steam for $5 too, totally worth it, some of the most awesome games around.
If there were only two games to play in the world, I would choose a text editor and a good C compiler.

Agreed. I ended up buying the complete pack through the IV store for the Linux versions. Definitely worth the $45, Uplink sits at my #1 favorite game of all time, with the rest of the pack sitting comfortably in the top 10. Should have bought this sooner.
