A puzzling entry on the Evil Overlord List

Postby skull13 » Wed Sep 02, 2009 5:27 am

(This post assumes that you have read Peter Anspach's Evil Overlord List . If you haven't, go do it. Its funny.

I read entry 99, and it states that "Any data file of crucial importance will be padded to 1.45Mb in size." I don't understand why this would be neccesary. Is this to keep the file on a floppy disk?

I believe it's because 1.45mb is just over the size limit for an old floppy disk. By padding the file the hero can't just copy it and walk away.

Edit: Yep, the 3½-inch HD floppy disk had a formatted size limit of 1.44mb.

You make me feel old for remembering handling floppies with about 1/8 of that capacity, and twice the size.

Yeah, the -actually- floppy disks.

They make pretty neat CD/DVD sleeves if you still have any...

When I was your age, floppies were five and a quarter inches on a side, and were actually floppy! And we knew we had it good, because our parents floppies were eight inches to a side! Damn kids! Get offa mah lawn!

I traveled here from the year 1984 to say this:

Quoting others does not make you funny.

You do mouse over the comic to read the text that appears right? It explains everything. Though I figured out what it was on about from the images themselves.
