If Introversion Releases a new game and needs beta testers, does the beta tester need to meet a certain requirement such as a #of posts for example ? Thanks!

The way I understand it works is something like this...

Trusted members of the forum get first dibs, but other than that, your value as a tester (and thus being selected) follows this line of thinking:

The more:

you've helped in the past (a previous tester that doesn't provide any help is about = somebody "new")
number of systems you can test on
older/newer system (for min requirements, etc) you have to use for testing
amount of time you can devote to testing/troubleshooting bugs
genuinely enthusiastic you are about the game/IV

The more you'll be looked at as a potential beta tester.

For the Multiwinia test they had an application and you would input your computer's specifications and a little comment box. I'm sure they look for someone who can actually devote a bit of time to the game, has a specific card/cpu/OS they need to test on and someone who would be less likely only want to get in the beta just to play the game*

*although all of the beta testers are guilty of really wanting to play the game anyways 8)

Wanting to play the game is a good thing. Who the hell would beta a game they didn't want to play.

But yeah, the trick is to find the people that would be useful.

I believe you mean Who. ;)
The answer to that is people who get paid for it.

Oops! But still, that's no beta tester around here.

Because around here devs don't need to pay a dime and they have more beta testers than they need. ;)

Your forgetting about the usefulness factor.

Regarding Multiwinia beta testing, I didn't really have that much enthusiasm for the game itself. I just like problem solving and hoped Multiwinia would be "fun". For me it wasn't, which is why I've never played a single game since it's release.

On the other hand, I had lots of fun trying to break it/resolve problems. I didn't have loads of time to spend doing it, but I think (?) I helped.

I don't really now how they choose who be beta tester and who not but one think it's sure if you to be beta tester for help the dev that's a good point to you but if you want that only for playing the game before anybody that's really useless for the dev who need motived beta tester.

So I think they will choose the most usefull people.

I have no idea what this means.

I think he's making a distinction between people who don't care about beta testing the game and just want to play it vs. the people who do care about the beta testing and will actually help.
