I need an advice
Hello!
I'm new here. I've been browsing tons of forums for an idea of what to do. I was laid off from my job about 3 month ago. I've been looking for a job since then, but did not even get a single interview. I worked as a web designer for a publishing company for the last 5 years. Looks like forums.introversion.co.uk is an active forum with active members and may be someone has some experience working as a freelance web designer. May be "Introversion Lounge" category is not the most appropriate for this question, but I want to try anyways to get some opinions before I go ahead with my life. I'm wondering if it is possible in the current economy to find work for a freelance web designer and make enough to pay for rent and groceries. I was able to find a small project on craigslist and I developed a website for a company. It was a small project and took me only a week to complete. I got paid $800 for 1 week of work which is not bad. Please people give me some ideas. I have 2 kids and my wife is out of work as well. Thank you in advance.

Is the ICQ link actually supposed to be http://wwp.icq.com/scripts/search.dll?to=352326513 ?
ICQ uses a dll to search?

Windowsfag!
File extensions don't actually bind files to something.
However, convention suggests that yes, that's a windows server using a compiled library to serve pages. I suppose if you REALLY need performance... :/
(I don't know why you'd be with Windows/IIS in that case, though.)

(Then again, it could be Apache on Windows. I think that exists.)
Sure. Not forgetting that in Apache, though, you can use AddHandler to mask the filetype you're using. For example, the "dll" file could be a PHP script and they could use AddHandler php-script .dll

That comes back to my "file extensions don't actually bind files to something" comment; file extensions have absolutely nothing to do with _any_ program's ability to handle those files.
The extension may not have any relation to any particular program's ability to interpret that file, but there are certainly conventions for filename extensions. I can only think of a few reasons to use something other than the standard, and most of them have to do with confusing people, either to get around restrictions or to create some kind of "security through obscurity." For instance, I can see naming a php script with a .jpg extension, so that the output of that script (perhaps a .jpg image) could be properly included in a forum post on a forum that does not allow image tags to be used without a .jpg (or similar) extension.
I can't see any reason right off that one might want to change a .php (or whatever) to a .dll. Thus, the .dll extension is a bit strange, either because it implies that a compiled library is being used, or because it implies that the host intentionally uses the "wrong" file extension for whatever reason. In any event, Occam would probably suggest that it is, indeed, a compiled library.
