Game i'm making: 2D Space Game Warspace

Postby Spacemonkey » Fri Apr 03, 2009 1:25 am

I'm working on a 2D space game. At the moment it consists of being able to colonize planets and trade resources.

I'm looking for people to help test it, as well as people who would like to help contribute.

Contributions can be things like ideas, artwork (planets, ships, resources etc), data like planet names, resource names and descriptions, planet types and descriptions etc

Some Screenshots

For more information and to download the game go here.

If you have any problem downloading and running it please tell me and i'll try and fix it.

I'll ask the question we're all thinking, can you play as some sort of spacemonkey, or are they otherwise included in the game?

I tried it, but I have no idea what I'm doing.

It also seems like you were influenced by Strange Adventures and Weird World. If not, then it's an odd coincidence.

What language are you using for your code?

Hopefully this will blossom into something that is much better then spore.

Because Spore is a very decent game whose only real fault was how terribly overhyped it was?

I think of Spore as "another in the endless line of EA disappointments". The only way they sell so much is advertising so fucking much it's messing with your brain, and I'm suspecting SOME sort of mind control.

The way EA works:
  1. Start making pathetic game
  2. Advertise pathetic game to death, preferably with brainwashing
  3. Release pathetic game and sell billions
  4. Add single unnecessary feature to pathetic game
  5. Advertise pathetic game 2 to death, with brainwashing
  6. Release and sell billions of pathetic game 2
etc.

Spore was not pathetic, only over hyped.
"Surely you didn't mean to press that button just then did you?"
"No, nor will i disarm the nukes."
"Oh well, I will have my Fighters shoot them down."
"Sure you will."
"Oh NOES, ITS BEEN PATCHED!!!"

Fix'd

Anyways, having no problems with the running of the game. Playing is another matter, but I suspect that's somewhat out of scope for version 0.1a :P

Looks like a riff of those 'Galaxy Trek' games from the 70s and 80s

Stupid astronomers have to go and give moons/plutoids proper mythological names so that all the fictional planets are left with is orcish syllables and greek letters.

Maybe, I intend to include different ship types, then maybe eventually different player types, like humans, spacemonkeys, robots, pirates etc

Never played those games. I was mostly influenced by an old win95 game called Warpath, and a more recent one starport.

But EA were the ones who over hyped it. They kept releasing videos, showing all these cool things we'll be able to do. Then once the game came out hardly any of that stuff was in it.

It was a good game, but it was a shame they didn't put a lot of the good stuff in. And there still hasn't been (and probably will never be) any content/gameplay patches. Instead they're going to charge people for extra.
