The place to hang out and talk about totally anything general.

Super Bowl XLIII

Postby ynbniar » Thu Jan 29, 2009 1:30 am

Despite not being American I do like the NFL and it's just about Super Bowl time again.

I've been to one NFL match and despite the stop start nature of the game the atmosphere was amazing...it's something to see if you can.

Last year's Super Bowl was an exciting encounter but I'm a bit worried that this year will be a bit one sided...Arizona are massive underdogs and you can get 2/1 at the bookmakers with Pittsburgh 1/2 odds on favourites...the bookies are rarely wrong...

...so I wonder if it's even worth staying up into the wee small hours this year?

I don't know if I'll watch. But I'm a Titans fan and we absolutely dominated the Stealers when we played them a few weeks ago, so if they win at least I can get some solace from the fact that we are better than them (even if we did play an absolutely appalling game against the Ravens in the second round of the playoffs).

Well, as I'm a Dallas fan, the only reason I care to watch is obviously the commercials.

Why did you remind me? I spent so much money burning that from my memory banks! :P

I agree with you though, I hope the Steelers win just because of the same reason.

It's on BBC here so we just get some ex-player not famous enough to do USA TV, and maybe Mike Ditka if we're lucky, during the breaks...no commercials.

Nobody cheering for the underdog so far

My only guess is that we were trying too hard. We tried to get that extra yard instead of protecting the ball. The offense was somewhat spotty all year though, so it wasn't entirely out of character.

Add in some Super Chopsticks and a hell of a lot of ramen and I'm sold.

Wouldn't it be a much better name for a bowling competition? :P

I asked a guy yesterday how many fruit loops you could put into a super bowl. We both left the conversation quite confused.

It seems we are always trying to fight for that extra yard.
