Subversion beta?
Subversion beta?
Hi all,
I know this is probably months too early but I still wonder:
Will there be a beta test for Subversion?
I'm following your dev blog and this ?game? looks really like it has a lot of potential for every kind of genre!
So I'm quite eager to try it as soon as (legally) possible!
I know you had beta tests with all your previous games, I just was too slow to try and participate.
So the real question is:
What do I have to do to get the chance to help you testing Subversion?

Usually? Sign up for the beta (once it goes up) and pray.
You can increase your odds by being a good member of the community and/or participate in other IV betas though.

So is there still a chance to get on the beta? I would really like that but I fear I don't post enough to be counted as "an active comunity member" and I don't have Xfire so I can't enter the contest. I don't think just posting more will get me in so is there any third option?

People, cool down. No-one, and I mean no-one (except maaaaaaaaaybe Introversion themselves) have any idea when the beta is going to start - it is impossible to be 'too late' to sign up at this time. Also, posting much doesn't automatically make you a respected community member, nor does it work the opposite way - you can still be an involved community member if you don't post a lot. Now, don't worry too much, so far Introversion has also taken on relatively new members on beta tests so there is always a chance - I think the Multiwinia format worked well, with groups being added to the testers group after several months of testing to increase the input. So, if you're not in the beta the first time around, you are not entirely rid of a chance of getting in.

I never said the beta was already rolling, in fact I said the opposite in my first post...
It's clearly visible in the dev blog that the world within Subversion is now slowly coming to "life"... There's not much of a game inside (that we know of)
I'm fully aware it will be months / years / when-it's-done until the beta could start.
I just wanted to know what the procedure for selecting testers has been in the previous games...
So, to sum it up:
Is that about it?

So, to sum it up:
- There's no ETA for the beta test
- One can NOT sign up for it yet
- One has to gain "Karma" in order to be selected by IV
- There will probably be a (official) thread where one can sign up
- One can win access to the beta by promoting Multiwinia through XFire
- There's a chance the beta will be organised in several tiers

- Gaining "Karma" will increase your chances of being selected by IV
- There will be an official thread where one can sign up
- One could win access to the beta by promoting Multiwinia through Xfire (not anymore, the contest is over)
- There's a chance the beta will be organised in several tiers
I've edited your list a bit in the quote above, this is what most of us believe to be correct.

This isn't quite correct. Gaining "Karma" may improve your odds, but it isn't strictly necessary.
Example: the first round of Multiwinia Beta testing was almost entirely comprised of regulars (most of whom had already beta tested). The latter rounds had many people who probably never posted in the forums.
Another Example: I was selected to beta test the Darwinia Vista Patch within a week of joining these forums. Although having a crappy PC at the time may have helped.
Also, I'm unsure if the xfire one is still running.
EDIT: Ninja'd

I thought I saw something about subversion going beta some time this year? Or was that the release of darwnia plus? I forgot...... Either way once Darwinia+ comes out they will have more staff members to work on subversion and it will get done faster.
