IGF 2009 Submissions

Postby Phelanpt » Wed Dec 03, 2008 3:34 pm

Have you been trying out the IGF submissions? I've tried a few, and found some very interesting games. :)
I'll post about them later.

I check the IGF entries at some point every year.

Thanks for reminding me. :D

As everyone loves to bitch about stuff when it comes to IGF, I'll jump in with this:

Abacus? Seriously?

Heh, yeah. That one does not look very imaginative.

I usually just check out the finalists, since I'm only reminded of it after the results are announced.

Here's a few that I think are pretty good:

A New Zero:
It's a minimalistic first person team warfare game, where you control boats and planes to destroy the opponents buildings, from the creators of GISH
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=730

Aether:
Very imaginative artsy flash game. Knew this one before the submission.
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=671

Altitude:
Multiplayer 2D airplane dogfighting. The team mode is especially interesting
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=726

Dyson:
A very beautiful space strategy game.
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=568

Downhill Bowling:
Half-race, half-bowling, all fun. :D
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=691

Dino Run:
Run away from destruction, as a small dinossaur.
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=456

Mastermind World Conqueror:
A humorous management flash game, very well done.
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=622

There's a few I still want to try.

I already knew Dino Run.

There's a non-multiplayer version on Armor Games.

Dyson I think I saw on RPS a good while ago, it is indeed very lovely. I'll have to take a look at that first one too, Gish was awesome.

Altitude is... wow.

It's so very very fun, and I recommend it.

It goes up near Multiwinia on my 'favourite games' list.

I've wanting to try Between but can't get someone to play it with me yet. If any of you want to try it, send me a PM to arrange the time, or let me know on IRC.

I've played a few more (running out of disk space :P) so here are a few more recommendations:

Shift 3:
A platform puzzle flash game, with an interesting game mechanic. Play the first two if you haven't already.
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=517

Temporal:
A platform puzzle game using time travel mechanics, with a great art style.
http://www.igf.com/php-bin/entry2009.php?id=484

Feel free to recommend ones you found interesting. :)

I tried to play between, but could also find no one. I'd love to have a crack at it, just as long as we don't cheat. ;)

Temporal is quite awesome, but very difficult to play well. I'm currently at chapter 11.

I tried it with xander already. The idea is interesting, but it can take a while to finish. I don't think we did. :?
I'd suggest you try it with someone else, but I can do it if you don't find another. Let me know on IRC or xfire.

I passed 11 yesterday, am still at 12. You're quite right about difficult...Have you turned on the last option in the settings menu? :P

I haven't been able to find out what it's for. It's greyed out. I assumed it's a joke?
