That's because I overestimated the groups (everybody playing) ability to solve (as bert put it) "elementary" puzzles.

The room indeed is some sort of "picture" of what the ancients believed to be the heavenly plane. The "creatures" are actually depictions of the gods they worshiped and fill the room. King xkcd obviously is the center of attention. Also, the floor seems to be a map of the known world

Man, standing on ground, looking up at (possibly xkcd, in) the heavenly plane, would do what if moving any of the levers
