So am I. Cate Blanchet, too. They're the reason I saw the movie. But a great cast can't save a terrible movie.

Indeed, but a great cast can make a good move, like The Life Aquatic, much better. ;)

In terms of this thread, the idea is to find the worst film of all time. I would suggest that, while you dislike The Life Aquatic, there are a lot of people that really love it, and not because it is "so bad that it's good." A movie that genuinely has fans should probably not be considered the worst movie of all time.

((As an aside, Wendryn didn't like it, either.))

It's often the films which are lauded as being great, by either critics, the public or friends, which you find yourself considering more eye-gougingly, scrotum mincingly awful.

For instance I watched Audition after several recommendations by lovers of Japanese films as well as those generally considering Takeshi Miike a brilliant director. It wasn't a bad film, but I inclined to view it as worse than I would have if I had not had the views of others. Although even without other people's opinions I still would have found it the most boring thing I have ever seen.

Some would say that's a contradiction. Not necessarily, but some people would. :P

Audition was...ok. There are better films by Takeshi Miike, but if you didn't like Audition, there's not really much point in making you watch Ichi The Killer ;)

(edit)also, I must add, when other people tell me what I should think about a film (or indeed a book, or a game, or some music), it does indeed colour my views. For years I hated Morrowind for no other reason than my best friend would not shut the fuck up about it for months. Actually, years.

(Even more years later, of course, I played it for myself, and thus found yet more reasons to hate it. ;P )

It is quite hard to pick faults with boring things though, because it was superbly acted in the sense that it was so boring. The problem was the whole thing was supposed to be a fairly dull to fit the dull and lonely life of the father, unfortunately the shocking and warped horror bit was as, if not more, boring than the rest of the film. In fact the only interesting part of the whole experience was Bill Bailey, for some bizaare reason, introducing the film and explaining that most of the film is inane and banal and that perhaps one might like to eat a kinder egg and construct the toy throughout.

I probably should watch Ichi the Killer (and dead or alive supposedly), although I have very little interest in gore given my complete desensitisation, but I sort of gave up the whole cinema and films slog some time ago.

i thought Deuce Bigolo European Gigolo was shocking and reached new levels of comedic depravity
And i really did like "the life aquatic". Its kind of like Napoleon Dynamite either you think its hilarious and love it or you don't get it and find it incredibly pointless and stupid. High School movie was pretty shocking but I somehow doubt i'm the target audience of it whereas with bigolo i am....

Just done watching the film named as "300". THAT, in my opinion, is the worst of the worst, the baddest of the bad, the mean and cruel film (cruel for me, it was so painful to watch it till the end), with a lot of CGI and bullcrap, no decent story (I really felt stupid when I've seen some goblins or whatever serving the Persian Empire, I mean, am I missing something here?), let alone the "THIS IS SPARTAA!" words screamed from that "Leonidas" guy, which may sound funny at first but after watching the film, I've found asking myself "Why did he scream that out? Didn't the messenger already knew that he was heading to Sparta?")
I really want to invent a time machine now, go back to the time when I was inserting the DVD into the player, punch the other me, take the disc out and smash it with a hammer.
(No offense for those who liked that movie, just sharing my opinion)

Given the messenger's previous words were "This is madness!", I think Leonidas's outburst meant "while our actions may be considered mad if interpreted on the basis of your own social norms, we do not hold said cultural values here, as THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

And yes, it is a silly film.

Another contender of the "Worst Movie Ever Made" award. This time, it's Alien vs Predator:Requiem (shortly AvP:R). Now, when I've seen the trailer of AvP, I've thought: "Nah, it won't work, the whole Alien vs Predator scene is just..nonsense", so I went to www.metacritics.com and read the reviews, and judging by the score given by the reviewers, it was bad. But, I thought that this movie was like an "exception" (sometimes the critics give a good movie a bad rating), so I rented a DVD of it. My opinion about the movie:
An average movie. The plot wasn't really exiting (like I said before, Alien vs Predator = Bulls****), though I've enjoyed some scenes between their fights (but as usual, humans were always in their way). The acting was....not too good or bad.
So, after watching the first movie, I returned the DVD and asked for the sequel (AvP:R). Now, I have some complaints why it's a bull**** movie. First off, the DVD. The DVD had some poor designed label on it (infact, it somehow reminded me of AvP label, making me feel that this DVD was the first movie as well), so I asked if it's AvP:R and I was told that "Yes, it is the sequel". What I didn't notice though, that it was a RUSSIAN version (what the...?) of the movie (the label didn't say anything about it, neither did the box). Well, knowing Russian, I began watching the movie. First complaint about the movie, is the plot. As mentioned many times before, Predator vs Alien theme is just un-maginary, un-original and just STUPID type of the plot there is. Then comes the horrible acting. At one scene, when Alien was attacking some house, father of daughter (living in that place) was telling daughter to go to sleep, while keeping some "robotic" accent and intervals between words (even if it was some poor translated version of the film, I still could hear the original voices), so I am quoting what he said: "Molly.......it..is..late.....time..to..sleep..." and etc. The Russian version sounded much worse, it was so bad it made me laugh (and I am not a type of who watches bad movies and laughs at it). Like, take this one for example:
Guy A: "What's up?"
Guy B: "Let's go? Sit down I'll give you a ride!"
(I've translated it so the reader of this post would understand it)
The fighting scenes were horrible too. Specifically, the Human vs Aliens ones. I couldn't understand why SOLDIERS couldn't hold up some bunch of Aliens, while Cops did the job pretty fine.
Now, the last "point" about the plot. Why did I say that the plot was no good? Because it doesn't make any sense. Why would Aliens invade the Earth, when they got their butt kicked in Aliens (Alien 2) movie by Marines and Ripley, then got owned in the 3rd movie (which was a bad movie like the 4th one) like in the first movie, and then the "ressurected" ones got owned AGAIN in the 4th movie! That means that: with a loss of a spaceship, huge amount of aliens, two queens, the "new born" (O_o), eggs, with what would they attack Earth? That's right, with bull**** which the writers came out in 1 second. I am not a Predator fan (even though I've enjoyed watching the two movies), so I won't start talking about Predators.
Well...I guess this is the end to this long long post. And again, it wasn't meant as offense against any people who enjoyed the movie, I am just sharing my opinion.

Your arguements on AVP are so flawed it's just not funny.

1) AVP the first movie sucked. It was a 12s ffs.
2) AVP:R was not as bad as the first one, but it wasn't great.

AVP as a concept has been around for over a decade, with novels, comics, computer games. The aliens you see in the alien movies are not the only ones of their species. They have quite a few spread out across the galaxy and so on.

Go get the Darkhorse comics from years back, they are available as graphic novels now. Read them. Understand that it's so much bigger then the two pieces of crap that were those movies were.

So yes the movies suck. Don't diss the whole franchise.

What do you mean by "Don't diss the whole franchise."?
I've enjoyed Alien and Aliens movies, and Predator movies as well. They were great. The 3rd movie and the 4th was weaker than the first once (heck, if there would be Predator 3, in my opinion it would be worse than the parts 1-2).
I've read some of the comics of Alien vs Predator on-line. Never was sucked into it, since I didn't like it. Don't know about novels though, need to check them....As for computer games...if you mean those oldie ones which needs to be played on a hanheld, well....I thought it was just too repetative. The video game AvP on PC was OK I guess, but I never got sucked in it so didn't try the sequels.
P.S: Oh and yeah, I was talking about the movies here, not the franchise :P
