Code: Select all

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -2.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.23

And, to make up for the late posting, here's a little PHP image I mashed together. Strangely enough, the part that took long was the entering of the data, not the actual scripting.

Image

I'm sorry if it's become a little unreadable, I'll try to expand it nicely. Anyway, it's completely dynamic, so any new data can be entered quickly.

For those who are interested:

Code: Select all

<?php
$imgwidth = 360;
$textsize = 10;
$dotdiameter = 12;
$font = 'arial.ttf';

$data = array(
'NeoThermic' => array(-2.38, -4.10),
'xander' => array(-8, -6.51),
'microchip08' => array(-2.62, -2.21),
'Rkiver' => array(-6.38, -4.87),
'The GoldFish' => array(-4.38, -5.44),
'Mas Tnega' => array(-4.38, -1.38),
'Darksun' => array(-6.88, -6.87),
'Feud' => array(2, 2.36),
'wwarnick' => array(-5.38, -1.18),
'Montyphy' => array(-6.75, -3.33),
'Kunshu' => array(-3.75, -3.90),
'Ace Rimmer' => array(-1.5, 3.28),
'KingAl' => array(-5.5, -7.38),
'NukeLord' => array(-2.38, -2.26),
'zjoere' => array(3.75, -4.21),
'Grandstone' => array(-0.25, -4.26),
'jelco the galactaboy' => array(-2.75, -1.23)
);

$img = imagecreate($imgwidth, $imgwidth);

$colourlefttop = imagecolorallocate($img, 255, 117, 117);
$colourrighttop = imagecolorallocate($img, 66, 170, 255);
$colourleftdown = imagecolorallocate($img, 154, 237, 151);
$colourrightdown = imagecolorallocate($img, 192, 154, 234);
$colourgrid = imagecolorallocate($img, 160, 160, 160);
$colourlines = imagecolorallocate($img, 0, 0, 0);

imagefilledrectangle($img, 0, 0, ($imgwidth / 2), ($imgwidth / 2), $colourlefttop);
imagefilledrectangle($img, ($imgwidth / 2), 0, $imgwidth, ($imgwidth / 2), $colourrighttop);
imagefilledrectangle($img, 0, ($imgwidth / 2), ($imgwidth / 2), $imgwidth, $colourleftdown);
imagefilledrectangle($img, ($imgwidth / 2), ($imgwidth / 2), $imgwidth, $imgwidth, $colourrightdown);

imageline($img, 0, ($imgwidth / 2), $imgwidth, ($imgwidth / 2), $colourlines);
imageline($img, ($imgwidth / 2), 0, ($imgwidth / 2), $imgwidth, $colourlines);

for($pointer = ($imgwidth / 18); $pointer < $imgwidth; $pointer = ($pointer + ($imgwidth / 18)))
{
   if(($pointer % ($imgwidth / 2)) == 0)
      continue 1;

   imageline($img, 0, $pointer, $imgwidth, $pointer, $colourgrid);
   imageline($img, $pointer, 0, $pointer, $imgwidth, $colourgrid);
}

foreach($data as $key => $value)
{
   $x = (($imgwidth / 2) + round($value[0] * ($imgwidth / 18)));
   $y = (($imgwidth / 2) - round($value[1] * ($imgwidth / 18)));

   imagefilledellipse($img, $x, $y, $dotdiameter, $dotdiameter, $colourlines);

   $textx = $x + $dotdiameter;
   $texty = $y + ($dotdiameter / 2);

   imagettftext($img, $textsize, 0, $textx, $texty, $colourlines, $font, $key);
}

header("Content-Type: image/png");
imagepng($img);
?>

EDIT: You won't need my permission to nick this code, but a little credit would be nice :wink:

Jelco

PS: Yes, I have recreated the entire background instead of just creating a base image as a background. Why? So that I can scale it, as is now needed. :wink:

To maintain readability, here's a note (instead of an edit): the image has been rescaled to be 1.5 times it's original size (360 x 360). I tried 2 times the original size as well, but there was almost no advantage with that, and this gives enough readability without making the thing too damn large. Also, microchip08 and NukeLord couldn't be much closer to each other, I think :wink:

EDIT: Final notes of tonight (I really need to get some sleep): I've made a small addition to the script which now makes it possible to scale the image yourself, if you want to zoom in to some parts. The max is a factor 5.4 of the original size (360 x 360), with any size larger than that the memory of the server can't handle it anymore (so I've put a limit on that value). Use http://img.portal42.net/polls/politicsgraph.png?size=5.4 to see how big that is. :P Change the value for size to the scale you want. The default is 1.5.

EDIT 2: And of course, I've just added shiny to the list.

I ought to add:

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -1.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.13

I think that's quite accurate for me, really. :)

@Jelco: Did you do an average of my scores or something (or are the numbers different for your graph) as my most recent compass score is:

Economic Left/Right: -8.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.05

Hmm. Good point.

* changes graph *

I have no idea where those numbers come from, to be honest.

EDIT: After another quick look at all the posts, I saw those results were Xocrates'. So he's been added to the list as well.

Right, who's for changing their leaning so we get a nice picture when you join the dots?
