Can I get a little help?

Postby madsniper » Sun Jun 10, 2007 8:20 am

Anyway, I've tried rebooting and such, and it takes forever to boot, then it gets to this command-console-type screen that says the following:

Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.2.40 Beta-5
Copyright (C) 1997-2006, Intel Corporation

Intel(R) Boot Agent PXE Base Code (PXE-2.1 build 085)
Copyright (C) 1997-2005, Intel Corporation

CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 16 76 D9 AF D0 GUID: BEFF5055 5CE9 11DB BC3E 0011111989417
PXE-E53: No boot filename received

PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

and that's where it gets stuck.

This happened after I got a BSOD that said something about a kernel error.

This probably isn't the best place to ask, but I know PXE is to do with booting via a network - this might just be to do with BIOS settings, or alternatively because your hard drive isn't working and it's reverted to alternative boot methods.

Are you familiar with the BIOS? It's probably worth checking out your boot preferences etc.

BIOS locked up after a few minutes of rousing through it. I think the boot sector sorta got up and poofed now that I've calmed down and had time to think about it.

Have you tried Googling it?

I did google it.

Weirdest thing:

My comp worked fine today. I booted it up and it booted like normal...

My laptop did something very similar the other day, because its hard drive is close to failure, and it gets too hot. At first I had no idea why it was using PXE - the last time I fiddled with that was at least 2 years ago when I worked for a school. Looking at my BIOS, there was apparently not even a hard drive *plugged in*, which was very worrying. I took it out, let everything cool down, and then it worked again. But it's not a good sign. :(
